    Forge world armies

Its been a while since ive picked up any of my models (2500pts of dark angels) but im tempted to start a fresh.... The two choices im making is... Elysian Drop troops or Death Korps of Kreig? i like both of the models but im wanting opinions on which would look nicer on a table.. and am tempted to ally them with Witch Hunters.

I intend on writing up some fluff at somepoint when its not 2:15 in the morning and i can think straight.

Any ideas or opinions on anything would be greatly appreciated

Both those Forge World armies have extremely good models. I have a little of both unfortunately as i couldn't decide . At the moment i am using the Death Korps of Krieg using their specialised army list, but the best thing about them is you can just use the models along with the regular Guard Codex without to much problem. You of course can't use some of the more cool things like Centaur Artillery Tractors and Thudd Guns, but most of the options are similar. It is an expensive project though. I'm not worried because i live in Australia. The AUD is at a 26 year high against the British Pound and Forge World is actually cheaper than Games Workshop for me . For example, i can get a Basilisk for roughly $50 ish from FW, thats including the 15% shipping. $83 from GW .

lol, so true. What finally convinced me was those nice artillery pieces and the Twin-linked Heavy Stubber crews, not to mention the Centaur.

Edit: I'm not ashamed to say that i did buy the Elysian Sniper Team as well, they are defo drool material.

I would base it on what kind of army you have in mind...elysians go well with light infantry, sentinel,s and skimmers...dkok go well with tanks and chimeras...either set of models is gorgeous, though.

To be honest i haven't done much at all with my Elysians yet, ive been quite busy lately unfortunately (just got home from an 11-hour shift yeah! ). As for Krieg they haven't even arrived yet . I think conversions would be relatively easy however, the model is split into as many parts as possible, so straight swaps would be quite easy. As for resin, there is a nice guide on the Forge World home page that guides you through preparation and whatnot. Citadel superglue works fine, DO NOT use any flavour of plastic glue though!

I've got to ask. What do you see in the TL Heavy Stubber? I have a Krieg Seige army list too and I couldnt bring myself to buy those models. I dont see what makes three shot twin linked bolters with less AP better than say three heavy bolters or thee autocannons which cost the same points. You may not hit as much since they arent twin linked, but they wound a lot easier when they do hit.

If you are looking to ally one of the two choices with which hunters then I would say Krieg would be a good choice. I dont know the elysian back story so I cant vouch for them, but seeing Kriegs past, I say they would be all for hunting down heretics and enemies of the empire.

After finishing i realised it was longer than i intended, just read the final paragraph and you will have your answer .
Its a fair question and i'll attempt to explain. To begin with, The Heavy Stubber (HS) models just appealed to me, more so than the other HWT's. I understand your point about the HWS's. For those i always take either Autocannons or Lascannons, as i believe anti-infantry Heavy Weapons are unnecessary, particularly in an IG or Krieg list. Anti-infantry should be covered by a multitude of other units including Thudd Guns/Heavy Mortars, all flavours of Ordnance, special weapons such as Flamers and when it comes down to it, FRFSRF Lasguns. Lascannons are also relatively inexpensive when compared to the Imperial Guard counterpart and Autocannons have also been cost-efficient.

The only other way of including a Heavy Weapon in a Krieg list is of course your CCS. This is where i take my single Heavy Stubber crew because it does not matter so much that i am taking one uncompetitve choice, compared to three. It is unfortunate that a TL HS costs 5 points more for no apparent reason in a CCS, but i can live with it. A CCS is also unable to take a Lascannon and Autocannons are covered in other areas of my list. Depending what you are shooting at, a TL HS is sometimes better than a HB. When firing at MEQs the difference in performance is negligible. The HB has a higher Strength and the HS can re-roll hits, AP is irrelevant.

Basically, i wanted to include a model that i liked the look of with minimal impact on the competitiveness of my list. The only way to do that was to include one in my CCS, as taking a HWS would be uncompetitive.

The Witch Hunters codex is about to be updated in White Dwarf (as "Sisters of Battle"), where the allies rules are certain to be removed. So I wouldn't make any purchases that rely on a mix of the two books.
