Welcome to Librarium Online!
I am suffering from an absence of an army, being that all my warhammer happened to be in another country for another couple months being arrested at the customs for whatever reason. And I need to feed my plastic crack addiction.
There is an Idea for an army I have been kicking around for a while but never had really big motivation to do, now seems the perfect opportunity, and it should merge quite well with my other forces.
The base for the army is SM codex, maybe I can use the BA and SW ones if I get some more army specific models later.
I was thinking of an inquisition led crusade, containing death watch and several other chapters, some inquisitorial troops. The majority of the force will wear death watch, but I am thinking if I can leave several marines in their chapter armor with fluff pointing out that they joined recently and have not been given proper ammunition and gear.
I am thinking of using my DKoK for inquisitor's personal army, and they will replace scouts, I am really looking at land speeder storm, but not quite sure how effective it is.
I already have, once I reaquire them, a SOB and GK armies, and all my rhinos are painted black with lots of =I= markings on them, so everything should be quite fluid together in terms of fluff and paint schemes.
Question about deathwatch, I am sure some of you know much more about it than I: even though marine's armour is painted black, he is still allowed to wear his chapter's trinkets and insignia on him? I am thinking about using different SM kits (DA etc) to represent all the different chapters, so Ill have some marines running in robes, some in tabards.
Im looking forward to reading your opinions and thoughts,
Normally they will retain a shoulder pad from their original chapter and soem of their armour may keep the original chapters colours, although it will almost all be repainted black.
I'd think he could still wear some other insignia like a back baner or some parchment or something from his home chapter. Remember marines have no set time in a deathwatch team, they may be there for a single battle recruited a week before, to carry out a single mission, for a lengthy campaign or possibly even longer.
The land speeder storm isnt a great vehicle, although it can be used to put some early pressure on your opponent while the rest of your force positions itself, this would probobly be used best with an assault oriented force and so a shooty deathwatch army may not fit the bill.

My biggest concern with painting and something that really makes me want to paint this project is that I want to have more color difference in the army, I used to play BA in 2nd ED, and got a bit tired of all red, so I may have one squad of ultramarines tagging along per Inquisitor's request and some black armored robed marines, it should have brighter feel than a normal marine army, I suppose my biggest inspiration for this would be my previous eldar project.
As for shootiness, I am not necessarily aiming for a shooty army, even though marine's forte is mid-long field if they are not specialized for CC. I have no problem bringing a land raider full of angry terminators and some good stuff like that.
For speeder, it really looks cool and I think having 6 human looking models may be great looking piece on the table. I was thinking of maybe using Vulkan as HQ, so meltas on speeders and in squads will be a very powerful push in second-third turn
Go for it dude. Sure, fluff is cool and that but dont let it hold you back from doing great models. I am doing a couple of Death Watch squads myself and its full of Robes, Tabards, Wolf Fetishes and insignia. They are supposed to be the best there are at what they do, not just another squad of marines, they should standout. I have played with the idea of even painting my helmets chapter colours aswell but cannot decide.
It's fairly fluffy to include inducted units from some conventional marine chapter - it is the Inquisition, after all.
A deathwatch army is always an interesting idea. However i cant imagine an inquisitor using the deathwatch on protracted war.Neither have them operate predators and Landraiders.I picture the deathwatch as specialised commando teams of go in do your thing and if you can get out sort of mondus operandi.
Also i imagine that when they join the ranks most marines wont be using robes, furs etc...since those stuff denote something within their respective chapter and there is no point in the deathwatch for them.
Praise be to the Emperor!!
Yes, they keep all that stuff.Question about deathwatch, I am sure some of you know much more about it than I: even though marine's armour is painted black, he is still allowed to wear his chapter's trinkets and insignia on him?
Only the paint job and the deathwatch shoulder pad is changed. Crests, emplems, insignias ect ect are all left intact. Infact, the main reason for keeping one shoulder pad in the chapters colours and painting one arm silver is to apease the armours machine spirit. The sacrolige of defacing the armours sacred markings that carry its proud herritage would probably result in some seriously pissed off AI.!
In the 41st millenium there is no such thing as paranoia, the universe realy is out to get you!
Its an imperial superstition more or less.Even a microwave cooker is supposed to have a machine spirit,i dont think so they have AIs.
So if they paint their armor whole black and then they get shot by a plasma cannon a foolish tech adept would go like this:What did you expect? You made your armor angry.......
Praise be to the Emperor!!
