Okay Im revamping my guard army and Im having a second look at my heavey support choices. Keep in mind Im a mobile army because I play Steel Legion, All CHIMERAS
Here are the following combinations that I nedd help to pick from:

3 Basilisks

2 Leman Russes 1 Demolisher

2 Basilisks 1 Leman Russ

The Predator Lingers forth. Suddenly the sound of several wipping sounds can be heard far off into the distance, a second later the once mighty Predator ignited with flames. "Sir what was that" The srgt replied "Its those damn Broadsides"

Hear the wip, fear the Broadside.

MMMMMMMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.....Cheeeessssssyyy!!!
I recomend the 2 bassies and 1 russ. Artillery works best in groups, and the russ to support the chimeras.
I am with stupid /\

2 lemanrusses and 1 demolisher for sure, the best bet out of the three of those, basalisks arent that great due to the minimum range

Basilisk minimum range doesn't matter, you just put it in a corner and you'll always be able to hit some one, or just direct fire...

personally i'm a big fan of the Russ, Demolisher, Bassie combo

and i think your opponents will like you better. for some reason when people start seeing multiple of one guard tank (ie 3 Russes, or 2 Bassies) they start getting *crazy* ideas of cheeze

for sure you don't want multiple Bassies, this is obvious. you have a Mechanized list, the last thing you need is alot of armor hiding behind cover. you need a couple Russes/Demolisher out in the open drawing fire off your chimeras/sentinels/hellhounds! if you have 2 bassies then your chimera are going to be dropping like flies to lascannons!

but on the other hand, you NEED to have a bassie. since your mechanized you're not going to have alot of deepstriking options. so this means hiding enemy units are either going to have to be chased down my your tanks (takes time and usually have to move 12" aka not fire). or pop them with indirect, so one bassie is a must.

so now you're asking, "what about 2 Russes and a Bassie? it's cheaper than Russ/Demo/bassie."

true, it is cheaper by about 30 points. but what do you get for those 30 points? simple AP2 power. mechanzied list usually have plenty of Horde killing power (chimera are really good at that). and they usually take a few AP3 pie plates, but they often lack two things.
1) AP2 killing power
2) AV14 killing power
the demolisher gives you both. you NEED some good AP2 killing power, termies can be annoying, and since you're not going to have the "100 lasguns" that people like me use to kill termies, you need AP2. Demolisher cannon and hull Lascannon/Plasmacannon sponsons are PERFECT for this role. nothing says "Back Off Termies" like a Las/Plas Demolisher!
and as for AV14, hopefully you've taken some Lascannons in your squads, but even if you haven't and the [LandRaider/Monolith] is knocking at your door, a Strength 10 Demolisher cannon can do wonders!! even with the halfstrenght rule, usually AV14 tanks are sooo big that you almost never miss! and Str10 (ask any Tau player) is pretty good at popping AV14.

so there you go, my 3 cents as to why you should go with Russ/Demo/Bassie

That is the combo that Iam currently using but the fact is since my enemy knows that the demolisher is a killing machine ut its short range ends up dieing before to do any major killing

try keeping the demolisher back at first.

or just use it to take a area of the map, the enemy usually avoids it like the plague

do you use alot of other light tanks (hellhounds/chimeras/sentinels) cause if you do, and the enemy's still pounding yoru demolisher.. than it's really not that bad, i'd rather have him using alot of firepower to take out a demolisher than taking out chimeras/hellhounds with those lascannons like mad.

I use three Leman Russes. One with three heavy bolters in the hull, the others with the lascannon/heavy bolter combo.

I use them because mainly I fight marines and the 3 battle cannons really makes the marines have a bad day. I have a demolisher model but found that it usually dies before getting a shot off since it has a 24" range and it can't fire both plasma cannons on the move.

I could care less what my opponents think as far as "cheese" goes. If I was powergaming I'd take schaeffer's last chancers and give them about 20 lascannons.

I do use a lot of light tanks I have 3 sentinels with lascannons, but I do expect the enemy to fire at the demolisher, but its too expensive to be cannon fodder.
