I think its a great upgrade however on certain units I do wonder if its really needed (such as strikes), dunno with me it always seems like if I don't take it I wish I had and if I have taken it it seems to make little impact, whats everyone else thoughts on it? what units do you use it on?
I find it useful, but not necessarily a must have in my lists. I am in the same boat as you my friend, when I take it, it is of little help, but If I dont take it, I usually regret it
I actually find it most useful on Interceptors and strikes (with the exception of vehicles), S5 means they can slow down AV10/11 vehicles and become a general nuisanse.
The two unis I give psyammo to are: Purifiers and the Brotherhood Champion. The Second if I am trying to fill out points.
Why use science and education when ignorance and superstition will work just as well.
As a math-hammery rule of thumb - how many stormbolters gain from the upgrade? It it's less then Seven (small termisquads, Purifiers with 4x Psycannon etc), then leave it at home, if it's seven or more (Termi-stars, 10man strike/interceptor squads) then go for it. (Especially Strikers are often played as a pure shooty unit, where you don't buy CC upgrades).
The Silver Knights of Tor Adrac (He): 26/2/4
The Spears of Slaanesh (Woc): 7/2/5
Battlegroup Chalybso (GK): 7/3/3
I agree I only give it to units with 8 or more storm bolters.
Occastionally you see posts in the army list section giving it to 5 terminators or even 2x5 terminators and not thinking of giving it to 1x10 terminators then combat squadding.
Obviously on Psyflemen dreads and on razorbacks the small cost is worth every penny.
