Iím building a Grey Knight terminator army because after playing mech guard Iím looking for an army thatís small in number and fun to play, also Iíd like an army that didnít require a huge army case to transport.
Anyway right now my army is made up of a Grand Master, 4 Terminator squads (2 Incinerators and 2 Psycannons) and 2 Autocannon Dreads. Itís a solid base but I trying to decide on how best to spend my remaining points to solve the armyís biggest issue; mobility?
So far there are 3 choicesÖ
1. Storm Ravens: They have great speed and can move at full speed and still fire the Multi-melta or Lascannon with the machine spirit, plus allow a squad to get out and assault all of which makes them good for mobility. So far these are the ones Iím looking at.
However the only thing I donít like is the armour and you really need to get first turn cause with all the anti-armour weapons in armies these days and with only 4 vehicles with AV12 on the board they could be easily shot down. This will leave the squad being transported stranded and forced to walk across the board.
2. Land Raiders: Sadly I donít have enough points for two of them but if I take 1 in the list with the points leftover I can upgrade my dreads to venerable giving me 3 hard to kill vehicles on the board on turn 1. With my commander and a squad in the land raider my 3 remaining terminator squads can arrive quicker.
The downside here is it doesnít have as much firepower or mobility as the two ravens, but will take some shooting to bring down.
3. Interceptors: Iím considering a 10 man squad equipped with Psybolt ammo, 2 Psycannons and a hammer. Theyíre role will be to move up the side of the board providing support for the terminators and jumping in to combat if needed, before using their shunt for some last turn objective grabbing.
Only downside is theyíre expensive and only a 30pts cheaper than the 2 storm ravens.
A Note Regarding Dreadknights
I know teleporting Dreadknights are fantastic units, however Iím not interested in fielding them for the moment so Iíd like to hear what other players thoughts are on the other 3 choices.
This is the biggest problem my army is facing so Iíd be grateful for any advice about the issue?
If you had full Psycannons on your terminator squads I would advocate Interceptors, but as it is you need to get those Incinerators in range as quickly as possible, which means Storm Ravens are your best bet. Personally, I am of the opinion that Multimelta/Assault Cannon is superior to Multimelta/Lascannon, since a Fast Skimmer is almost always going to be able to get in close for shots (and frankly, a single lascannon shot isn't going to do much, especially if the target has cover).
"The sergeant major asked me what my job is. I told him it's to do what I am told. He gave me a medal. I like the Imperial Guard."
"Innocentia Probat Nihil"
I have to agree with Stradius, Ravens all the way, speed is your friend. I also agree that the Lascannon is not necessary, the Assault cannon is a great multi-task weapon. I also find the Plasma cannon to be useful as a support weapon to take care of termies or power armoured objective sitters, works nicely with MS missiles turn 2 for 5 blast shots on a unit, whilst MM gets PotMS to take out vehicles.
yeah, ravens all the way, especially at lower point games. i would also recommend trying to get a librarian in the list as two shrouded turbo boosting stormravens are hard to take out and then you can have turn 2 assaulting termies. However if you scale up to 2000 or 2500 pts, there is just too much AT on the table and you will probably have to scale up to landraiders for survivablilty. and when you play against other grey knights, MS missiles are the bomb!

I don't like stormravens. They at just too vulnerable, at 12 av they are easy to shoot down ad you can never move them their maximum or you loose everything. Land raiders scare people, they still have decent shooting but are harder to kill provide better cover for your units and only cost a little more than raven. The only issue with raiders that I have is they tak heavy choices which could be used for dreadknights.
So to clarify, if you move flat out so long as you don't fail a dangerous terrain test, ram a vehicle or tank shock a squad then you will never need to worry about losing the contents of the storm raven when it gets wrecked.
But i think your Grand master can make the strike squad (scrap that) INTERCEPTORS scoring... which might help at just the right point.
you could actually take an objective rather than just contest it...

^^ huh- strike squads are scoring owing to being troop choices I think you are refering to the intercepters tho so disregard :p
How Big are your proposed Terminator Squads by the way ?
the problem with making the interceptors scoring is you need them to CONTEST the enemy's objectives which means scoring or not, they won't claim the objective, wasting that ability, and interceptors away from the fight makes no sense at all. for the points spent, you could get a LR or SR with sweet upgrades/more termis compared to a full unit of interceptors.
