Just a thought. Why take a commander when you can take a chaplain??
You must take a powerweapon for the commander anyway, and the chaplain also got a 4+ fixed save. And there isn't anything the commander can take, but the chaplain not, right?
Came to think of it... I use commanders!!!
I saw a picture of the new SM command squad in my WD for November. It included a champion and a commander. With the tech marine being an elite choice in the new codex and sold separtely.
I like the champion figure and was thinking of using it as my commander instead of one of the other heros or command figures.
I think I will have to take some kind of commander however in my space marine army.
Anyway just my thoughts on the subject
Some people might not like the chaplains appearance(the skull mask, etc). personnally I ALWAYS take chaplains, sometimes i take force commanders for the 3 wounds
As Blood Angel14 said, in large games the extra wound of a force commander is useful. In small games though, if the rosarius is assumed to have the same cost an iron halo, then the chaplains free power weapon means that if given the choice between a commander and a chaplain, the chaplain should be taken instead, every time. When the new codex comes out, on the other hand, the librarian may suddenly find himself as the best HQ choice. Apparently they are being upgraded very muchly.
Ravenwing: list made, now just to buy all the stuff on it (why do bikes have to be so expensive?)
I myself use a Chaplain all the time. I think he is a lot better for the points.
But as soon as Captain Shrike comes out, Chappie's gonna have to take his place on the bench.

If your commander would take a power weapon and Iron Halo, the Chaplain is equivalent, but cheaper.
Anything else (eg Power fist & Iron Halo; Power Weapon no Iron Halo), the commander is cheaper.

occasionaly i use the commander just for the HQ choice.
i mean, sometimes i use the 210 points or so of the commander on something else and just get the commander because it is REQUIRED to have an HQ choice so i just pay the LOW cost of 30 points to be able to play

Hardly. The Chaplain is also getting some new stuff. Hsi power may involve the ability to re-roll hit dice for him and his squad on the first round of combat.
Anything can burn if you try hard enough.
I think the chaplain should be fearless and grant that to any squad he joins. Or at least Leadership 10!Originally posted by Sunflash@Oct 17 2004, 19:30

The enemies of the Emperor fear many things. They fear discovery, defeat, despair and death. Yet there is one thing they fear above all others. They fear the wrath of the Space Marines!
i already like the librarian better than both of them...i just dont take a chaplain, because he costs a base cost of 180 points for blood angels...f*ck that for a day at the beach as they say...
