Welcome to Librarium Online!
I was just looking through the new codex and I saw that the wargear of all stormtroopers/kasrkins includes hotshot lasgun, hotshot las pistol and close combat weapon.
So basically stormtroopers now have 2 standard attacks in close combat for having a pistol and knife just like chaos troops?
And also it suggests that the sergeant can also shoot a hotshot lasgun instead of just a pistol now?
Not that imperial guard troops are any good in close combat or anything lol, its just nice to have those extra attacks just in case they don't all die before they get a chance to strike back.
I so wish I never sold mine now.
I believe that if you use your hot-laspistol instead of your hot-lasgun, then you get 2CC weapons, otherwise it'd be a bit silly as every marine would have 2 assaults always, 3 on the charge.
i doesn't matter what weapon you used before the assault phase in regards to attacks in close combat unless it's specified for a certain weapon in a codex. (i.e. ork burner) so stormtroopers have 2 attacks in the assault phase even if they fired their lasgun in the previous phase. just remember they cant assault in the same turn they fire their lasguns.
Never give up. Never give up. HIT, HIT, HIT, HIT!
I've experimented with Stormtroopers and close combat with very poor results. Two handfuls of GEQ attacks is not much better than one and, without stubbornness or fearlessness, they will NEVER hold the line. At their cost, that's not excusable. Adding Bastonne to the mix does nothing, either; +2 leadership meets -5 combat resolution and there go 200+ points, and that assumes he doesn't get sniped out during combat.

But they can fire with their las pistols, and then attack. Then they have two attacks in close combat (regardless of what they fired). This is because they carry a pistol and close combat weapon, alongside their hotshot lasgun.
But other than that....meh.
They're men, not ogryns. If you want a cc army, go orcs or nid or...well, anything but guard.

I'll give the Sarge a power weapon if I have the spare points, but I don't rely on them as an assault unit. They're far far more effective at shooting 3+ guys.
I guess it comes down to "CC when you need to. When in doubt, die."

I do like the idea of having a 50 man blob w/ commissar and 6 power weapons = 90 normal attacks, 24 power weapon assaults, not much can take that but it is pretty costly and if you fail your leadership, bang, one powersword gone. not the nicest feeling
