    Painting Ultramarines

    Hey guys!

Well , i'v been hopping to and fro on what to do next but as you may guess iv gone for Ultramarines!

Why? because i want to give them the image they deserve as opposed to the horribly blue spreyd models with the disgusting yellow spoldges that so many noobs do.

I'v decided im doing an army made up of the Reserve companies, these guys see just as much combat as the rest of the chapter just in mixed form, eg 2 tacticals from 7th an assault from 8th, 2 devestators from 9th etc etc.

    BUT I DIGRESS

So far i have undercoated black then the armour basecoated Mordian blue.....but iv come unstuck!!

I dont know where to go from here, drybrush Ultramarine? Just Black wash and start to highlight? iv never come unstuck like this when im doing a scheme befor, help me!!!

If you can spare the models or don't mind restarting some then try out a few techniques you have in mind and see which you like best.

I cant! i spent ages building the first 5, im thinking a 1:1 Mordian/Ultramarine for the next layer then to highlight go ice blue. i will give it a shot and let you know how it turns out!

Ooh too much of a jump in shade. Use straight ultramarine blue for your first one then if you don't mind mixing use a mix of ultramarine and skull white but don't go straight to ice blue or you will hate the result. Have a look on the GW site at how they do their ultramarines for some inspiration because they start off as you have.

I wouldn't even mix skullwhite with the ultramarinesblue, instead try to go to UMblue from the mordian then mix it with space wolves grey for more highlighting

Well the plan so far is to do a coat of 1:1 Mordian/Ultramarine, then im going to go pure UM for the highlights and possibly SW after that, will do it later after the gym! Ah what up weights!!!

For a darker more gothic ultramarine = basecoat 60/40 UM Blue and Necron Abyss - then work your way up to pure UM blue, maybe an extreme highlight of UM blue with a little astronomican grey mixed in to finish (A VERY LITTLE BIT OF ASTRO GREY - it's foundation remember).

Well the 1:1 Mordain UM mix went well, a nice good colour, what im going to do now is totaly ignore everyone as my inspiration has hit me again!!!! (no offence intended, i will come back to this)

What im going to do now is try a highlight of pure UM, then a 2:1 UM and Ice blue for an extream edge on it, then a wash of asurmen blue to tie it down a little, wish me luck!!

(back to the advice) what i love is the many ways people have suggested, so many different options, i thank you all as iv had some really good suggestions, if it goes wrong i will let you know

Really guys, thanks for the advice! here goes nothing!!
