Hello all, I need help deciding on what army to make as my tournament army. A friend and I have talked and we want to start getting into the competitive tournament scene, and to kick this off I would like to start a new army for it. But I cannot decide between Space Wolves or Grey Knights. I like Wolves because they can just get down and dirty, neat models, while also being points efficient. I also like Grey Knights because of mass power weapons and many other neat possibilities. But if any of you with more experience could help me out, I would like to know which army tends to be stronger or which of my proposed lists is the stronger list, and ways to maybe improve my list for things that I haven’t seen.
Anyway, any and all help is appreciated. Here are the links to the two army lists:
Both are strong so go with what ever you life fluff wise. Just remember, an auto-win army list actually doesn't mean auto win. Making it at tournaments depends more on how you play the army rather then just having the right stuff. Fritz on his wayofsaimhann blog has an article on a chaos space marine player running around at tournaments and confusing the @#&* out of people on how their "auto-win x" lists were being beaten. On BellsOfLostSouls they had a black templar player beat what looked like a variation of the typical IG mech leafblower list. So ya just pick your favorite and go with it. Spacewolves and GreyKnights are both easy to learn armies, but ALL armies are hard to master (though some IMHO a tad bit harder).
I couldn't agree with Warlord more. The thing that most people going to a tournament forget is that it doesn't matter what is in your list. What matters is if you are comfortable with the list. My Nid list runs circles around other opponents not because I have min-maxed the hell out of it, but because I know what each unit does and why it is in my list. I can't beat some one that lets me with with my Eldar. It doesn't matter if i copy and paste a wining list from the internet, i just have no idea how to use those pointy eared bastards.
Pick the one that you are most experienced with or comfortable with.
Army's used: Space Wolves, Tomb Kings, High Elves, Tyranids, Tau and Eldar.
Funny you should say that, because my nid list has been my most successful overall despite everybody telling me it's frankly crap. Yet my marines never ever win.
