i have an eversor a vindicare and 2 dcAs i would like to use in 500 to 100 pt games. what strategies to you suggest emplying with each. for example. which, if any, should i use against the tau (with kroot)? nids? DE? also, does anyone ever shoot with the eversor-his charge range is the same as his pistol range, why bother?
i assume that you're *not* using the Eversor AND the Vindicare assassing in the same army? since you're only allow 1 officio assassin.Originally posted by funnymouth@Oct 21 2004, 01:53

i prefer the Eversor. but alot of people around here also like the vindi. he's good for sniping hidden powerfists (agonizers).
as for the Eversor. why use the pistol? well simply because in 4ed you can move, fire the pistol once, and still assault and get all your attacks.
yeah, you'd NEVER wanna double tap the pistol, always assault.
personally i think the eversor should be able to assault after he rapidfires the pistol. you can tell the rules were written with that in mind. but with the new rules, it specifically says "if you rapidfire a pistol, you may not assault" oh well, it's rather minor.
i like to use my Eversor and DeathCultAssassins as early assaulters. they all infiltrate together, out of LOS, 12" away from the enemy. 1st turn the Eversor runs out and assaults the closest unit. and the DCA follow (but obviously can't reach the melee that turn. but since the Eversor is in CC, this will *hopefully* make it so that LOS is blocked to the DCA from the rest of his army.
and of course all this is happening while my IG are shooting like mad.
Check the pinned tactica, it has a whole section about assassins.
ive read just about every assain tactica on the forum, i know there general qualities. im more interested in specific tactics. for example ive noticed some people take them in 500 point games (which i play often)....humm, lets see
hows this for a question if i take
inq + plasma cannon
5 st (grenade launcher, plasma)
6 st (melta, flamer)
5 gk (1 justicar, 1 psycannon)
small stealth team
or anything else (i.e. what would be best for general use)
what should i use my assassin against? what should i avoid?
e.g. should i avoid targeting large units in general?
would dca's + wargear/ retinue be a better choice?
or in larger games ive heard of people useing dca's as a vindicare bodyguard, does it work? is it an effective use of these guys?
most of my battles will be 500 points, so specific tactical ideas vs. different opponents would be nice.
how about a vin in 500 points? (i think no b/c of the large percentage of troops, but they would work very well on small artmies that rely on heavy weaps)
how have you all used them effectively in SPECIFIC instances?
DCA's are great for adding an unexpected kick. I like to march them behind my transports - sometimes the enemy doesn't see them, and even if he does there's no LoS. That way my IST aren't completely defenseless in CC, as each squad has one DCA to jump in with them. Only once have I gotten multiple DCA into a single combat, and it was sick. A unit of Nid warriors charged my IST squad (with no CC upgrades), thinking it an easy kill. FOUR DCA managed to countercharge into that fight the next turn (one IST managed to survive to keep the warriors in place). They tore the entire enemy unit apart in one round. It was sick.
I like them in small games. Take an Inq Lord with retinue, 2 IST units, and 2-3 DCA, depending on points. They do a lot more damage than most other things at 500pts, and 2 wound models aren't that common for that cost.
Vindicare, not a big fan anymore. He just doesn't follow through enough for me to depend on him. He's collecting dust right now. All I can say is DON'T use the DCA as a bodyguard. Dunno who though of that idea, but its a bad one - How often does your sniper get charged?
I dont suppose you would have a Callidus Assassin? If not, then you should seriously think about getting one, especially if you play Tau often. For starters, the Neural Shredder works great against Tau as their average leadership is a 7 - 8. If your opponent is ever foolish enough to bring an ethereal, you can easily drop about half his army taking that out.
Unfortunately, other than that I do not have much experience with assassins, I hope that this isn't a wasted post, but when going up against Tau, the Callidus will be brutal.
Also, heavy bolters are better than plasma cannons, and incinerators are better than psycannons (when DSing) for use against Tau.
thaks for he tips guys.
hey i have a question. does the eversor get +1 attack for having 2ccws ? (the neural shredder and the power weapon). i only ask because it would be wierd if he didnt, seeing as how none of the other assassins carry two combat weapons and they all have the same baseline stats. ...... oh please, that would mean he could make up to 11 power weapon or neural shredder attacks! that could even put the hurt on a large squad.
Wait, sounds like a bit of confusion is going on here. I was talking about the Callidus assassin, one that you did not have and wondering if you had one, or suggesting that you should get one. That one has the neural shredder, which is a template weapon gun, not a ccw. You're thinking of the neuro-guantlet.
Now, that, plus the fact that he has a power weapon and pistol does in fact give him an extra attack for that alone, but only one, not two for the double ccw's Now when charging he does have the possibilty of getting 10 attacks, but only on the charge, but you'll seriously average around 7 - 8. Since you are going up against tau and kroot, you'll use your power weapon because your base strength allows you to wound on 3+ against those guys, not good enough to tackle the kroot solo, but enough to tear through the FW, but then, what doesnt?
hum ok, i ment the neuro guantlet. im still a little confused but ill figure it out. thats a good call on the eversor though, ill try and throw him at somthing harder than kroot i guess (it is a waste of a power weapon too...). problem is he usually bunches his firewarriors up in cover (side note: this is why i use a plasma cannon, i dont deepstrike my gk :o and a psycannon is a seriously pimped heavy bolter ^_^ ) so i think ill direct him at the stealth suits (grr i hate that assault move they get, hell put a stop to that).
i do plan on getting all of the assassins, but that is all i have available for the time being.
so do you think 2 dcas would be better? more wounds, but not even close to as badass.
so in a "normal" round of combat (not the charge) he gets 5 attacks?
use em both! Eversor + DCAs = pwn.
yes i said "pwn"
but if i had to choose between 2 DCA or an Eversor.. hmm ... i'd have to go with the Eversor. but the DCA are hotter... if that counts for anything... something about tiny metal hotties in leather...
