I was playing against my buddy the other day. He had is dark eldar and a squad of mandrakes. When I told him I got preferred enemy against his mandrakes he said I don't because it's not in his FAQ. So who's FAQ is right?
It states clear as a day in the GK FAQ that Mandrakes count as Daemons. Not that it really matters anyway since Mandrakes are horribad as is.
Yes I am aware of that but the problem lies that he says says it's not in his codex or FAQ so they are not daemons. I wasted the squad in combat anyhow but still.
ninjabackhand: point and click, again, really? even after i give you an military term "shock tactic" you still call it point and click.

It totally sounds like he is being douchey, and doesnt want to man up to official GW rules. I play Dark Eldar, and in their codex it does not state anywhere that they are daemons, not even in their description. But if in a FAQ by GW states that they are, which it does in the GK FAQ, then they are Daemons. Things like this though should be clarified BEFORE printing out the codexes for shipment, not after enough players argue whether or not a unit type is human, daemon, or creature. This is sloppy on GW's behalf. The only thing I would suggest though, is print out every faq that you know that you will need, so that clarification is established when situations like this arise.
Whether or not the DE Codex refers to "X" unit as Daemons or Fluffy Kittens is irrelevant. The fact of the matter is that as far as the Grey Knights are concerned, Mandrakes = Daemons, and so they are treated as if they were such. The official FAQ for the GKs says so. This statement/ruling does not have to be double-entered in the DE FAQ/Codex for it to be put into effect.
The Eldar Avatar at one point was not declared in its Codex as a Daemon IIRC (not sure if it still isn't; Codex is nit nearby atm.) but an FAQ determined that it too was classed as a Daemon as far as the game was concerned. No hue and cry from the fraternity for that ruling. In other words, there is precedent for the Mandrakes, so your friend does kinda need to learn to accept things that may not be quite what he might like them to be.
