Ok after looking at the 6th edition rule book (leaked with FAQ's) link here --> 6th 40K.zip i have seen some changes to imperial guard vehicles and shooting, as it is late i will go for the two HUGE changes to our vehicles i have seen, namely our humble russ and our lovely valkyrie/vendetta
Basically, our leman russ can now fire 3 guns whilst moving due to multi-targeting (3), great, sponsons are now a possiblity but ordnance takes up 2 of those (aww), even more so as when we sit still we can fire 2 times the amount of multi-targeting so it becomes multi-targeting (6), amazing, we can now fire all our guns including sponsons, like before, BUT we can now use those shots to make one of our weapons change targets, one shot used per gun, YES, change targets, e.g. 6 shots, lascannon and HB fire at one target whilst our BC fires at another, means our russes are more lethal than before and squadrons are no longer overkill and a possibility once again.
Now, the vendetta and vakyrie have supersonic! YAY! , it also has gunship rule, which means when stationary, it can fire 6 times more guns than normal... six??? meaning our vendetta can shoot 6 weapons instead of 1 when stationary (odd i know but only tanks are allowed to shoot 2 weapons now, behemoths 3) but it means each of it's lascannons can shoot at something seperate, which makes me think, is stationary guard vehicles an option again?
i'm going to bed so i'll come back in the morning hoping for a lively discussion here
I'll leave the zip to someone else to look see.....
Interesting change if anothe layer is added to shooting, so it would be St 5 Heavy 3 for the gun profile for example then the vehicale would have a shooting profile of (3) so it could fire 9 shots at different targets in this example? Hmm. Certanly adds to the whole fire fight that I expect 40k warzones to be but without additions to saves (the abundence of cover saves is nice but volume of fire will get ya in the end) I dont see that being fun. Will we see the multipul saves? Like in fantasy 3+ armour, 5+ ward?
I hear and I forget, I see and I remember, I do and I understand
Success is the ability to go from failure to failure without losing your enthusiasm.
First off all I can say is WOW, if all this is true we are going to see a lot more "shooter" based armies This is going to give a massive boost to our Valkries and Vendettas. The link you posted was not "secure" for my computer so I didn't click it. I interest in seeing how this plays for us being that we can target enemy tanks and wipe their infantry off the board potently in one turn. Time will tell to see how much of an advantage this gives us..... and how others counter it I wonder how much other shooter armies will improve ie the Tau!
From what I've been reading...
No weapon can be fired more than once per phase,
regardless of the number of actions the model has
at its disposal."
so glade the valkyrie is classed as a flyer. was hopping it could be added as a dedicated transport too, like in IA8.
"Coming in Vendettas / Valkyries, airborne troops, The Emperor gave us wings", unknown 181st Elysian Drop Regiment.
The Lexian System, the Imperial expansion continues.
HAH! this is hilarious, if our tanks are stationary, they count as WS0 in assault so automatic hits, if they move ANY distance they become WS10... we officially have the most skilled warriors in the universe and they weigh 65 tonnes.
Oh the whole system of to hit rolls has been revamped, if your 3 times the WS of the opponent they need 6's to hit, if your double their attack you hit on 2's, so our guardsmen squads will suffer from this.
Also new addition to the stat line it seems, Evasion values or EV. what it is require to hit now very similar to the wound chart, except a 6 is always a hit and a 1 is always a miss unless they are EV0 where you automatically hit. so a BS3 shooting at the standard EV which is 3 will hit on 4's like before, other factor come into play, if the unit is massive you deduct it by 1 so we hit large stuff on 3's now, if it sits still it is also deducted by 1 so BS3 hits a EV of 1 on a 2. Simple yet more realistic way to shoot seeing as how did my 1 meltagun which was touching a stationary tank missed - _ -
Also they reverted back to the old style of scattering where you roll to hit and only if you miss do you scatter, so tanks became a lot more accurate, also you scatter using 1D6 and double that value but the HIT marker is now just another arrow. so basically it becomes a hit or a 2" 4" 6" 8" 10" 12" scatter. not a bad trade off.
Melta bombs are now AP1 (finally!)
Pistols are usable in combat but with worsened AP for fairness yet high AP guns now have rending. e.g. Plasma Pistol S7 AP5 Combat, Pistol1, Gets Hot! Rending, meaning we get 1 S7 AP5 shot in combat at normal speed so i can assume plasma pistol will become seriously OP now.
Also, instant death is slightly different now, if your strength is 4 greater than their toughness, e.g. Democannon on carnifex, then it suffers an additional wound, this is Instant Death (1), if it is 5 greater, e.g. Lascannon on ogryn, you get 2 additional wounds, which is instant death (2), it goes on and so our Battle tank will cause double wounds on space marines and democannons cause 3 wounds on them in total, each. (these do not stack over to other squad members now, it makes sense how 1 meltagun shot hits one guy and only kills that one guy, not another one!)
Meltaguns can also be used in CC against tanks after shooting it, you can shoot it, or you can assault it and you get 1 S8 AP1 attack on the rear of the armour of that vehicle, makes sense really so it really gives our tanks three options,
1. Stationary gun platform
We sit still with our guns blazing, allowing our sponsons and hull weapon to unleash hell one one unit whilst our turret fires at another.
2. Moving AV14
Now if we move we have WS10 gives our tanks even more survivability but it does mean scything will now work, and preferred enemy means we are hit on 3's now. it is alot like the old style just more survivable
3. Squadrons return!
Yes it sounds silly but we can apply the first two tactics to squadrons, for example, if we have a squadron of leman russ's sitting back with sponsons etc, they can all fire their small(er) guns at unit which is more of a threat, whilst their turrets shoot at something else.
With the moving style we can do the same, just don't use the hull weapon then our tanks can fire at separate targets then, not sure if that is worth it really.
What this means is that we can now field more tanks than before without wasting most of their guns by overkill.
oh and did i forget, Super-heavies, flyers and gargantuan creatures are now in standard 40k... baneblades anyone?
Yes they do, you're right... I wasn't thinking right last night...
I've done a big rundown of the pros and cons for Guard in 6th on my blog:
The Back 40K: The Imperial Guard In 6th Edition: Good And Bad
The Russ got a huge boost. Blast weapons now hit at the firing model's ballistic skill. If you miss, multiply the number on the die by 2 and that's your scatter. Multiple-blast weapons (Executioner) only scatter on the first shot. The other shots then need only touch the preceding shot. So you can walk an Executioner or Manticore's blasts back towards the target for maximum hits. Expect Executioners with plasma sponsons to be all the rage.
The Vendetta is as good as it's always been, but it's basic move is 2" faster.
Techpriests are useful now.
The troubling thing will be what happened to Chimeras. They're easier to hit in both shooting and close combat, are more reliably kill-able when penetrated, and you deep strike when you're blown out of one (better hope you're not next to an enemy or they'll get to shoot you when this happens). Exploded vehicles leave no crater to hide in. In addition, models in a transport can only see 18" and can only fire one weapon on the move.
Oh, and if you're running within 12" of an enemy unit at the beginning of your turn, you're automatically destroyed.
Characters and unit leaders with power swords can also pick out our Commissars in combat now unless we buy them power swords too.
