Crimson fists are a strictly codex chapter I think. They're the branch of the Imperial fists that liked the Codex Astartes and wanted to follow it to the letter,as opposed to the Black Templar who appearently wipe thier ass with the CA on a regualr basis.(What..1000 marines to a chapter ? Seperate squads for marines and scouts? Not giving everybody a close combat weapon? ***** that we're gonna go form our own chapter!")
i dont think there is really much of a difference between the two chapters except the paint scheme (kinda obvious that one) as like said before crimson fists are just a later founding taken from imperial fists
Both follow Codex Astartes, but in 3rd ed the IF had special rules to reflect their specialisation in seige warfare. I expect that 4th ed will handle these using suggested Chapter Traits for each chapter.

Imperial Fists are hard to paint, choose Crimson Fists!!!!!
"Go Tell The Spartans, Stranger Passing By, That Here Obedient To Their Laws We Lie."
Simionides - In comemoration of the Battle of Thermopylae.
Do none of you read you codex?
Crimson Fists and Imperial Fists are both trait armies.
adv: Suffer not the alien to live (orks)
Disadv: Faithful unto death
adv: Suffer not the works of the heretics
disadv: Death Before dishonour
So you have the choice between killing orks well, and having good devestator squads. I know which I'd choose.
"You challenge me knowing that I am Xiahou Dun!?"
Why dont you just make up your own chapter. Its fun and you could do what you want with your army and have your own traits. I am making my own Chapter from the IF. ITs going to be called the Fists of Dorn. But you could make any name, example Knights of Dorn just use Dorn or fists and you have a chapter lol.
If you really want to do the Crimson or Imperial do the IF because the crimson fists have that rule where they have one less elite, fast attack, heavy. So do the IF
Erik Moraki's Great Company 16/4/7
Borgut "SBD" GreatStrider's Ogres 6/1/2
An'Gorath's World Eaters 3/0/2
Sigurd GreatFang's Wulfen Host 7/4/3
