So me and my Space Wolves buddy had a game of Planet Strike last week and I managed to defend the planet...just. Came down to kill points. Attackers get huge advantages. Get to go first (No way to change this), Fire storm attacks (D6 + Number of objectives S9 AP3 large Blasts which you fire after the defenders deploy but before attackers get first turn. Might be S8 can't remember.), and so long as you are claiming an objective you get it even if The defenders are in range as well. If its a draw through Objectives you revert to Killpoints to decide a winner. Lots of major advantages never mind Deep Striking units can assault the turn they arrive.
So this week I'm the attacker. Looking forward to it, but I am tempted to take 5 storm ravens because I'm allowed 6 fast attack slots. Does this seem like it will work or should I just make a regular list. My friend can potentially take 6 Long Fang squads but I don't think he'll field more than 3. I've had great success fielding 2 Storm Ravens and 2 Land raiders at 3K (Which is what this game is BTW). The temptation is too much, I have 2 Storm Ravens and so does my firend and he will let me use a valkery to represent the 5th if I do this but the big Question is, SHOULD I?
What do you guys think? I am going to be meeting up with him tomorrow in less than 12 hours so I'm going to need some quick replies just to help me make up my mind.
I'm also thinking of taking 2 or 3 Squads of Purifiers (10 man)
A 10 man paladin squad
2 grenade caddy Inquisitors with plasma pistols and Power weapons
and as many Dreadnoughts as I can fit into the points.
Truth is I think if I was to go all out on the Storm Ravens I'd only take 4 looking at the rest of my list but the idea of fielding 5 or 6 Ravens really is a fun prospect.
My vote: Do it.
The main reason is that you get first turn. You move 24" and still get to shoot a multi-melta and receive a cover save on his turn.
I suggest adding Mordrak who will AUTO deep-strike where ever you want (with no scatter) and get to assault FIRST TURN! bye bye long fangs...
Libby attached to Mordrak unit with a Tele-Homer, Lots of Paladins, Lots of Dread Knights, assault the crap out of him!
Haha, well yeah...I couldn't sleep so I actually made a list. The rough idea of it is this;
2 Henchmen Warbands each one consisting of 8 Death Cult, 1 Mystic (Better than a teleport Homer), 3 warrior acolytes with meltas
2 8 man squads of Puriifiers (No Hammers. These guys are purely for Infantry...only because I had to trim points from somewhere as I was 58 points over. 1 purifier with hammer =29pts)
10 man squad of Termies
6 man squad strike Squad with 2 hammers, one of them master crafted. (Assaulting vehicles/building first turn and hitting automatically as they have not moved. *Evil Laugh*)
4 Storm Ravens All with multimeltas, 3 with assault cannons and 1 with plasma cannon.
3 Dreadnoughts with multimeltas and doomfists
I have ideas in my head for how I'm going to use this list and I'm also taking into consideration of the Firsestrom attacks and stategaems I will have as well. I have a good feeling about this list. I'm lacking a lot of Long range fire power but I'm not planning on being at range for very long! It may not be super competitive but its certainly going to be fun and brutal. And its not far off a standard list I only took 1 extra HQ and 1 Extra Fast attack Slot than standard and when you consider my Chart for this mission looks like this.
And FYI for those of you who don't know, my opponents chart looks like this.
3 HQ (6 since he'es space puppies)
I hadn't considered Mordrak, but I'll keep him in mind for next time!
Okay update time, this thread is a couple of weeks old but I thought I'd let anyone wishing to know that I won the game of planet strike where I was attacking. My friend conceeded the game turn 5, basically if the game had continued another turn all he had was a 5 man termie wolf guard squad with arjac and a landraider If you looked at this game from a kill point point of veiw all I had lost was three of my four storm ravens and a terminator squad.
Then the following week when I was defender, he conceeded the game turn 3....I'm starting to notice a trend. Grey Knights are just awesome in Planet Strike. The second game when I was defender I made him conceed while I had only used around 2000points worth of my army, it was a crushing defeat but only because he tried a very different stategy and list using the new FOC to combat me...he won't be doing it again.
So this week I'm attacker again and I'm wondering how I should go about it. Should I try something different from the Storm Ravens or should I just keep on using them?
GK defending is just nasty. Imagine Coteaz w/3 plasma cannon servitors (or a unit of 10 paladins with 4 psycannons) and then Warp Quake striker combat squads all around. It just isn't fair.
I dare the attacker to deepstrike in and assault Driago with 10 paladins!
Record: Win - Loss - Draw: Hive Fleet Pandora (New) 32-6-6 Space Wolf 7th Co. 52-11-6
Blood Angels 12-4-2 Daemonhunters 20-8-3
Imperial Guards 12-5-2 Daemons 8-3-2
GK attacking is equally as nasty. Imagine draigo and paladins deepstriking and assaulting same turn.
