typhoon missile launcher
I was planning to run a group of tactical terminators(storm bolter/powerfist) as a 5 man squad probably to footslog or deep strike and was unsure of which special weapon would give them the greatest chance of making their points back or improve their tactical uses.
can anyone help with this??
Well to your question its the missle or assault cannon, they are your best bet at making your points back. I use Heavy flamer cause I deep strike or ride in a land raider and use Vulkan He'stan, I like to play fluffy and I dont "win" much. The assault cannon is rending and I have used it to destroy a Predator, from the front armor none the less, but the missle launcher is good for the fact that it can drop medium armor vehicles and blast lightly armored troops. It has been vary effective for me many times and is in my opinion the best choice.
In the current edition Cyclones all the way.Dont make a mistake i weep as i write this i grew up on terminator 2 so mini-gu...ehm...assault cannons are my fav.But right now if you want bang for your buck its the cyclone. 2 twin linked templates or 2 low ap shots. 3 rending shots is crazy but how many sixes are you gonna roll?
Anyway this will most likely change with 6th(after all we all have our terms cycloned now)but for now stick with the cyclone.
Praise be to the Emperor!!
Yep take the Cyclone as its the best of the options there. Deepstrike them down behind something and you'll get decent carnage on any vehicle short of a land raider. Also useful for finishing off the last couple of members of a pesky squad, and gives you a nice longer ranged weapon if you decide to footslog too. I play deathwing (all terminators) and cyclones are on every unit.

If you're walking, it has to be the Cyclone.
If your walking and running, then either the flamer or the AssCan.
If you're DSing with homers/beacons, the flamer or the AssCan.
If you're DS with no homers/beacons, the Cyclone or the AssCan.
thanks for the help everyone I thing I'm gonna give my terms a cyclone launcher and DS them to go tank killing.
thanks again, Jhordan
Has to be Cyclone Missile launcher. If not that then Heavy Flamer in my opinion. I continually use assault cannon with less than desireable results. I dont like the variable performance based on having to roll 6's to get seriouse damage through. For instance if I shoot a CML (crack or frag) at guardsman they die. If I shoot a HF at guardsman they die. If I shoot an AC at guardsman, I have to roll 6's for them not to get an armor save, If I dont roll 6's they still get their 5+ which could decrease the number of wounds caused. Oh and by the way you pay more points for the AC....for less productivity and anything but relyable results.
That being said I will still always field an AC in high point games but CML/HF any other time.
Any specific reason you want to go shooty rather than TH/SS? Assault terminators always seem to do better to be, especially in a Land Raider.
Assault terminators in a LR are great, but when they have a unit of SB/PF terminators with a CML laying down some fire behind them it can get ugly. A shooty unit demands attention and can take a licking and keep on ticking. TH/SS is nice for the Assault guys but to be really effective they need at least 2 LC in the unit for I4 power attacks to thin the heards in the first and subsequent assaults.Any specific reason you want to go shooty rather than TH/SS? Assault terminators always seem to do better to be, especially in a Land Raider.
I voted for assault cannon, because I usually Deep Strike my Termies. If you intend to footslog from one end of the table to another or sit near objective for possible counter-assault duties, then its cyclone missile launcher all the way.
