I am currently trying to thinktank up a bike list running vulcan with a pal of mine, but I don't really know where to go specifically. Right now the list looks like mostly Melta/Flamer/MM/Power Fist bike squads with an attack bike each, and attack bike squads for fast attack running MM. For the points not being eaten by that, I have a bike captain with artificer armor and thunder hammer running with a command squad of vets, all on bikes, three with c-meltas, one with a thunderhammer. And then the idea for vulkan is to stick him in a MM landraider redeemer with a group of five attack termies, four with TH/SS and one with lightning claws.
That's the VERY core of the list. I'm looking at other possible options to run with it. Scouts to fill out troops, especially in lower point games (~1500 )? I could take hellfire HB and sniper rifles with them and have them just be a long range support. Or even a missile launcher. Land Speeders with MM I could deepstrike in and pop a vehicle with. That'd essentially be trading points though. I'm worried they'd pop first turn they came out anyway since it's the only real armor I have aside from the Land Raider. Deepstriking dreadnoughts with meltas makes me laugh.
What do you fine gentlemen say? What would be an either a)cool or b)powerful way to go with this.
I looked into Vulcan/Bikers hybrid a while back. There's a lot of potential synergy there, but I found that it really doesn't work below 1750 or so due to the sheer volume of points you'd have to spend on just the 2 HQs alone. They just take too big a chunk out of the rest of your army. It'll get massive worse if you're insisting on the termies in a land raider that most Vulcan players tend to insist on. You just won't have enough support elements in your army, and your game will suffer for it.
I agree with Watchwood that such a list would be too top-heavy for most games. The payoff of Vulkan's Chapter Tactics is relatively modest, as well. Bikers don't have as critical a need for one-shot kills as, say, a Drop list does. They have the mobility to pick an enemy apart before committing to a charge.
If you insist on the combo then placing Vulkan with Sniper Scouts or a Devastator squad would make more sense than bringing a Land Raider & Terminators just so he'll have some playmates. You don't even need the thunder hammers, not with that many meltas flying around. Well... I guess a 5-man shooty Terminator squad would be okay for him. (Dropping the LR alone will save you a bundle.) This would also make it easier for you to swap Vulkan out if you felt like it; for example, if you decided to bring a Librarian for psychic defense sometime.
Alternatively, you could do things the other way around. Bring Vulkan & Land Raider, etc., together with a biker command squad or a single, non-scoring Bike squad. It's doing both scoring bikers and Vulkan & friends that's so restrictive.Remember that vehicles count as moving at cruising speed when they deepstrike. Therefore, Landspeeders cannot alpha-strike like this, nor will they have a cover save from turboboosting.Land Speeders with MM I could deepstrike in and pop a vehicle with.

Deep-striking doesn't equal flat-out so they wouldn't get a cover save, but Landspeeders are fast vehicles, so could still fire one weapon after moving at cruising speed.
To the OP.
I'd take meltaguns rather than combi's on the command squad.
When I bike list, I tend to go all bike where possible, to try and maximise the number of bikes on the table. If you're going to add Vulkan to that mix, consider drop podding him and his termy-playmates in. I'd second the option of making them shooty (and take a HF in the squad). The rest of the army then has the mobility to move up and provide support quickly, and the pod delivery is way cheaper than the Land Raider.
Alternatively, have him run with a tac-squad in the drop pod - drop them on a forward objective and rush the bikes up to support perhaps?
I have too many armies to list in my signature!
The only issue with Drop Podding Vulkan and "His termy-playmates" is that vanilla terminators can not take a Drop Pod as a dedicated transport. I looked into doing a Vulkan/Biker list earlier and also came to the conclusion that it's too expensive under about 1850 to run. I have moved to terminators in Crusader, drop pod ironclads, Tactical marines, and Power fist combi-melta scouts in a Multi-Melta Land Speeder Storm. Tactical Marines/Sternguard in a Pod with Vulkan works well also.
I asked around some other places and yeah, I pretty much have set myself on the conclusion that it's just not worth doing unless above 1850 points. So this army is pretty much on hold and maybe I'll revisit it later. The point of the army was just, I really like vulkan, and I really like bikes. I wouldn't be too upset if it wasn't a great list, but I WAS trying to push out as much power as possible from the theme.
You might be able to make it work if you used the bikes purely as tank hunting auxiliaries - dump the termies and raider from a normal Vulcan army, and just buy the bikes out of the FA slot with a bunch of meltaguns. That'd let you scale the army style down a lot lower then you otherwise could.
