i'd find it helpful if anybody had any ideas for a pre heresy emperor's children army i am considering: in that i'm not too keen on spending alot on forge world marine armour but am aware that the gw marine kits don't fit the pre heresy mould. Is there any way around this?
Take a bunch of normal minis and paint them up in pre-heresy colours?
i would like the armour to still seem a little pre heresy though. (thanks anyway!)
Mixing in some Oop and Rogue Trader marines might be your best bet.
What type of armor are we talking about?I mean the marks.
Praise be to the Emperor!!
When I did a pre-heresy Emperor's Children army a while back, I found a few things useful. First, in Index Astartes they were depicted in Corvus armour, which GW rationalised by saying that they had been the first to be equipped with it (a little odd, given Maximus armour had only just been developed, but GW were never famous for consistency). Therefore, it is perfectly acceptable to armour as many of your marines in MkVI armour as the basic GW kits allow.
Second is that you obviously have an advantage over other pre-heresy legions because you are allowed to use the aquila breastplates, opening up your options with the basic kits.
And thirdly, a few FW kits go a long way. The MkIV Maximus armour kit contains about twice as many of most of the parts as you need, including torsos and helms iirc. This should allow you to spread the parts across the army quite easily and achieve the same look without spending too much.
Finally, if you intend to use termies I can link you in a page I found useful for easily converting existing termie armour into pre-heresy termie armour.
Hope this helps.

thats great, thanks.
Well i have a way of building some preheresy corvus(beakie) mk armor.
You gonna need:
A computer displaying this: http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Images/P...rge/mkVI-2.jpg
and this : http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Images/P...rge/mkv-10.jpg
Some assault marine torsos
Some beakie heads
Some straight marine legs(the ones without knee caps)
Some blank shoulder pads
Some microbeads(the ones your girl friend uses to attach to her nails)
glue and files
a black pen
Start by filing the torsos two lower exterior cables.Try not to destroy them but remove them as single pieces since they will be useful later.
File the raised areas of the shoulder pads. Now take the pen and mark the positions you feel you should have the studs on the right shoulder pad.
Carefully take each microbead and apply a tiny tiny tiny tiny bit of superglue on the back of it and glue it in place.Instant studied shoulder pads.
As for the rest you know how to.
Now remember that carefully filed exterior cables? We gonna use them to make the heresy era armor.
You gonna need:
The spare filed exterior cables from the beakies
From the tactical marine squad picture you need the type of heads from the second marine the second line
Again some assault squad torsos
Again some micro beads
Again some spare shoulder pads
Black pen glue and files.
Now look on the creation of the bekies above on how to make the shoulder pads.
Do the same in order to place the beads on the heads and legs and crotch guards.
Glue the filed exterior cables on the legs. Before gluing make sure you have enough of those.
I hadnt enough so i green stuffed some. And apply some to their hands too.
I have replicated five and five of each using forge worlds pics for guidance for about a cost of 20 euros to hunt down some packs and guns from second ed from e-bay.
Hope that helps. It is 90% forge world accurate replication and it will cost you some spare parts from your bits box(especially if you are high on tactical squads)and e-baying for some torsos and perhaps backpacks.
For more accuracy try to find some old school weapons too.
