As title really,
Basically I'm making a 500pt marine list which combines elements from the Ultramarines 4th Co. and another Chapter.
Originally said other Chapter was going to be Imperial Fists, however, after several attempts at painting yellow, I'm beginning to lose the will and the patience to field even a single yellow marine. So, I've been looking for a new chapter to field!
At the moment I can't really decide between Crimson Fists and Dark Angels, what I'm looking for is a chapter that is relatively well know, instantly recognisable on the table-top, is fairly easy to paint and looks different from the ultramarines . Which of the two aforementioned chapters do you think would fit that bill better? And of course, feel free to suggest an entirely different chapter!
Lastly, this is just something to bear in mind, although not essential, I have an Imperial Fist Rhino/Razorback I've bought off eBay, it's not a bright yellow, so it wouldn't need to be re-sprayed, but it does have a converted front with like a glass wind-screen kind of thing (pics to follow), as well as some very nice hand-painted Fist symbols on the doors, which Ideally I dont want to get rid of (but I'm not closed to the idea of it being re-painted if another chapter other than Crimson or Imperial Fists takes charge of it).

Crimson Fists! Not that I'm biased or anything because I collect, said Crimson Fists.....
One shall stand, and one shall fall.
i would probably plumb for a DA sucessor chapter . The posability of a nice bone coloured marine force would compliment the ultramarine blue .Oh , and the unforgiven background is kind of interesting too .
Probably a good thing you couldn't get the imperial fists to work, fluff wise, imperial fists and ultra's don't like eachother much, which kind of translates to the crimsons as well I guess, so DA would probably be the best of your selection. But you could try something less well known like hawk lords, purple and gold, nice
I'd go Dark Angels. Crimson Fists aren't Crimson, their blue, with red hands. People probably wouldn't immediately recognize them as being any different from the typical UltraSmurf.
And why split the units? For an action that small, most chapters will go out by themselves and not mix. It just won't mesh well on the tabletop - unless you do a phenomenal job basing them, it will look like you just eBayed two different lots of marines, and stuck them on the table together.
Why not go with a SMurfs successor? There are plenty of them who've given up the blue armor in favor of another color. Or why not field your Veterans as Deathwatch or something? Their uniforms are solid black, with their chapter color and logo only present in the field of their right shoulderpad, and they recruit from all the different Loyalist chapters.
I understand your dilemma,I have painted up a squad as Crimson Fists, and had a battleforce of DA. The robed marines add a nice touch of flavour to the army, regardless of chapter. So the real question at hand is...What army do you really feel you favor more? Both are good choices for renown, but if you are looking for a slightly different style DA may also be what you are looking for. I know initially, a marine is still a marine, but your organization is what will vary.
DA i do collect so i will be biased but i was headed towards the same dilema, choose Fists (either really, probably crimson as yellow is an evil colour to paint!) I just loved the idea that its the first legion, their primarch is still alive (well sort of) the background of the fallen/unforgiven etc etc plus they're emo marines which i love to play around with
Going for DA successors is a good idea, i do like the look of the the angels of redemption having red robes and silver armour and even then norm robes are lovely to paint, dheneb then wash then highlight = good enough not to be embarrassed with + little effort to paint!
Thank you all for the replies
I think I will go with Crimson Fists to be honest, as I like their fluff and it would allow me to edit that tank without actually painting over all the hand-painted Fist symbols (well, I would be, just going over them in red though). I have also found a rather good and easy painting technique to get them done to boot! Crimson Fists - Pic heavy. 56K beware!! Here's the tutorial (look part way down)
Of course they're still blue, like my Ultramarines, but to be honest I dont think I'm particularly bothered by that, my ultras are a bright blue, with bright green shoulder-pad rims, and these guys are dark blue all over with red hands... I doubt that I'll ever mix them up, and to be honest I doubt anyone else will either haha
