My gaming buddy has suggested for fun that we swap armies and fight. So I'd use his nids and he'd use my grey knights. We did this once before when he used my Eldar and we both had a fun time. We both know the scary things in each others codexs having played against each other alot but we learned about a few weaknesses that our armies had while playing them that we didn't realise before. So now we're doing it again!
I have an idea of what I want to take, certainly what I find pretty scary coming against me. So long as I have purifiers horde doesn't scare me and MCs and multi wound models won't stand up to their force weapons. So I'm pretty sure he'll go for a purifier list, but thats just my guess. To get past the fearsome Halberds I'm going to take some bone sword/lash whip warriors but I can't field an army of them. Genestealers with furious charge also seem like a good choice for CC. What I will need to a good supply of shadow of the warp spread through out my forces to lower his chances of getting those psychic spells off. In order to allow myself to get my own psychic spells I'll take the death leaper (I think that's it's name) to lower the leadership of his librarian if he takes one. Well that's all I've thought about for now.
Has anyone found a partular unit/combo of nids devestating against your GKs? If so, what was it and why was it so devestating (If it's not plainly obvious of course.)?
Tyranids cannot beat GKs. Full stop. I play both armies competitively, and there is simply no contest. GKs outperform Tyranids in every game phase. Icing on the cake: GKs easily spam Init 6 force weapons. SitW can only stuff that about 50% of the time, and brotherhood banners get around SitW entirely.
GW screwed up. Unless the GK player takes a gimped army AND plays like a dolt, there is no hope for the Tyranids.
ninjabackhand: point and click, again, really? even after i give you an military term "shock tactic" you still call it point and click.

Here's an idea. You write up a GK list for your mate and get him to write up a Nid list for you to use. You have to try and make it as useless a list as you can (example - Give him Crowe and no Purifiers). The Overlords did it with the guys from, I believe, The 11th company. It was a hell of a lot of fun and that way, you also don't need to worry too much about one side totally out performing the other.

FYI we are doing a 2500pt list so we can get a good taste of what each army can provide.

Had the game today, lost by 2 KP. 10 - 8. He decided to stand and shoot and wait for me to get there. He had 2 ravens, 40 purifiers all with dedicated Rhinos, 10 man purgation, some death cult assassins, and a 6 man termie squad along with of course crowe.
MVP for me was one of my 3 10 man genestealer squads, they finished of the death cult assassins in CC after my warriors shot them up a bit AFTER immobilising their SR and then next turn finishing off the raven in CC before assaulting the other raven and crippling it destroying its multimelta and lascannon and immobilising it before the final 3 got shot and killed by a 10-man purifier squad.
LVP was the other 2 10 man genestealer squads, outflanked and took 4 turns to get into CC because I couldn't roll anything higher than a damn 1 for their Run rolls for 3 turns. That's 6 dice all of them 1's! Crowe himself charged one of the units turn 6 trying to get a KP but couldn't get off cleansing flame and even with shield of blades died to the genestealer attacks suffering 3 wounds after taking 10, 5 of them rending.
Most surprising though was my hormagaunts, the 20 man squad actually survived the crossing with 13 guys left thanks to cover saves and providing critical cover saves for my Warrior units. They then assaulted the chimera the purgation squad had 'borrowed' from the assassins surrounding it and wrecking both the tank and wiping out the squad inside before getting flambayed by Crowe.
I had 2 10-man stealer squads, 2 hive guard and 5 warriors left alive at the end of it all. He had 15 purifiers and 3 rhinos and a single termie left alive which killed my trygon prime last turn with a force weapon hit before I could hit him becuase he was I6. A decent game in my opinion. I hate relying of run rolls to get across the field, I miss my transports too much. If there had been a 7th turn my stealers and warriors could have potentially wiped him out since he had all 3 surviving rhinos lined up nicely for a multi-assault and not having moved in the last turn and the last of his purifiers in assault range.
