There seems to be so many things that negate your armour save , and I manage to roll a lot of 1's for my armour save.
How do you use yours ?
I have been running a unit of 5 with the brother captain leading them as a HQ unit.
Just a flamer in the retinue otherwise nothing special.
usually 1 GM & 3 termies w/ SB & NFW, and 1 more termyw/ Thunder Hammer & Storm Shield. deep strike in properly, maybe with a homing beacon, and they're good to go.
"One thing that intrigues people to fantasy is how different it is from reality. Make sure you remember that difference, and you'll have a wonderful time."
The biggest thing I see people doing wrong with terminators (GK or otherwise) is marching them. There are only three ways to move your Termies:
1) Deepstriking: 4+ strong, with support from other GK/IST units. Strike them out of LoS with the enemy if possible, but within a turn of movement to close. Don't give your foe the chance to shoot them with those save-negating guns.
2) Land Raider/Land Raider Crusader: Pile them into sweet sweet AV14 lovin' and play chicken with the enemy's advance. Again, always give them support or the enemy's concentrated fire will knock them out.
3) Leave them in cover: If you're playing an army that comes to you (Orks, Nids), don't waste points on a LR/LRC and don't risk deepstriking. Deploy the Termies out of LoS and in cover, and leave them there till the foe is close. Let the rest of your forces shoot and get shot at till the enemy hits your line.
in my experience, too many termi users put too much faith in their 2+ saves. they think that they're almost invulnerable!
1) ap2 weapons kill termies fast
2) mass rifle fire kills termies
3) choppas kill termies
4) powerweapons kill termies
and if you think about it, most armies usually have around 2 or more of these threats. so you can't think that the 2+ save will protect you. all it takes is one "6" and you just lost 40+ points.
however, termies (if used correctly) can change the game. Meglo is right, don't walk your termies around the battlefield. this leaves them wide open to Lascannon fire.
use cover! too many power armor players forget that cover will save your life! low armor armies learn this from day one, but it sometimes takes armies who are used to getting 3+ save, a while to remember this.
distractions help increase survivability. some people use termies as a distraction. but usually GK termies are not a distraction, they're the tip of the spear. so instead, you should use *other* units to distract for GKtermies. unfortunatly it's hard to distract your opponents attention away from GKtermies as they're often generate much concern by your opponent. try using Tanks to draw Lascannon fire away from Termies. Stormies to harras and hopefully draw some fire. Teleport a GK fast attack in front of the termies to draw a lil fire. etc etc.. the main thing is keep those guns off the termies. you wont draw all the fire, termies have a funny ability to be a fire magnet.. but hopefully you'll increase the survivability of all your units by target saturation
most of all, look out for hidden powerfists. i've seen more termies go down by engaging hidden powerfists than almost anything... (except for mass lasgun fire!!
i know all GKtermies have powerweapons, but 1 sarge w/ powerfist can take out a couple termies, and if you only have a 5 man squad, that can cripple you.
they are fire magnets. no matter what you do they will get shot at a lot; accept this, people fear the gk termis / hq. megalos a smart guy. 1)keep them off he table.2) dont use them as a "destraction " but be aware that they are none the less and use this to your advantage. 3)give them a mission, use them for a specific task where you will more than likely get your points back (fast) or save your ass (ie hard targets). aimless gk are as good as dead and are to pricy to make the cost cut against most run-of-the-mill types.
Teleport beacons is the best way (if you dont want to fork out 250 pts for a LR and lets face grey knights are expensive enough) to get termies in once in close combat avoid power weapons (seer councils kill terminator believe it) and you will slaughter everythign without fear of being shot
WELL SAID, NO MORE SQUATS THEY ARE DEAD GET OVER ITOriginally Posted by artificer
If you are playing high point games then Land Raider Rush. Put them all in the LR then drive them up use smoke launchers, then drive them up again and bingo Termies come running out tof a Land Raider to kill you enemies in CC. (Y)
*Remember if that Land Raider dies thats ALOT of points down the drain.
GL with your termies.
