Because I feel like Ultramarines would look too much like Thousand Sons in a personal collection of armies, and if/when I start Chaos, that's what I'd do.
I play Eldar. I am redoing/repainting my army from scratch, because I have talent now, and didn't before. But my second army would likely be Orks. And my third army would be Space Marines.
I have no Orks nor Space Marines right now.
But the Assault on Black Reach set looks like a fun starting point, and for really, really cheap, comparatively.
Anyway, I know nothing about Space Marines save that I'd like to paint Crimson Fists. Therefore, I want to make the Black Reach marines have fisty shoulder pads (heheh) and the like. There's a captain, 10 tactical guys, 5 terminators, and a dreadnaught.
My question is: what and how many items (shoulder pads, etc.) do I need to get, and how should I go about it?
he only bad thing is that the box set comes with transfers that all for the ultramarines. However, they do have a carved shoulder pad that has the tactical arrow symbol on it. Another thing is that you don't need to glue everything together but its better to. But apart from that, you just need to get transfers and paint them as crimson fists.
If you get a tactical marine box (and if you want to play that is sure to happen at some point) said boxes have more than enough transfers for ultramrines, dark angels, black templars, imperial and crimson fists to apply even into the black reach marines. In fact you at one point you will have so many transfers where you wont know what to do with them.
Praise be to the Emperor!!
If you've got a fine paint brush and a steady hand you could just paint them insignia on yourself. I've done it for several chapters, the Crimson Fists included.
