I'm very new to WH so all advice is most welcomed.
I have just started a Space Wolves Army and I am not sure to go with Grey Hunters or Blood Claws, GH have a better WS and BS and I could add a wolf standard but BC have Beserk Charge & Headstrong and I can add 'Lukas The Trickster' and I really like the sound of his 'the last laugh'.
My two questions
Is it advisable to add a Wolf standard if I go with GH?
If I go BC is Lukas good value at 140 points?
Lukas can be funny and the fluff behind him Is awesome
dont take him because of his last laugh, it is too unreliable, he has to die in combat for it to actually kill anything and its only models in base contact so you need to aim him at something big and rest assured if you opponent sees him they will shoot at him and try to make him pop before he gets into combat.
If He is For me, Who shall stand against me
Blood Claws are fluffy, but somewhat unreliable.
Grey Hunters, on the other hand, are considered to be some of the best troop choices in the entire game.
I am not a Space Pup player but my brother is. GH are vey reliable, well balanced for any situation, and dont need the charge due to counterstrike. All this paired up with a rhino/razorback make them probably among the top three troop choices in the entire game. always use them for competitive matches and so on. But my brother loves the BC and uses them as well, though never a full on BC list. In fact a full on BC list will take a very well balanced list and take lots of time figuring out how but in my opinion it looks funner and in the right hands (which at that point would be yours) would be killer.
A few ides on how to run them:
-Put 15 of them in a LandRaider and kit them for CC. They will kill most people they fight and add a WG with a PF to take on heavy stuff. This is very expensive and a 'deathstar' kinda unit but will be pretty useful in bigger point games.
-You could also put them in drop pods (which my bro does sometimes). Dont drop them in the enemies face, drop them in a place that will let you use their charge to its best.
-finally you could put them in Rhinos/razorbacks but this means good tactics, they have to support each other and they wont fight as much (so basically GH are better there).
But hey im not a SW player i just play my bro a good amount. He also likes to take Skyclaws with a priest(JP) and use them as his BC. If you get the hang of these guys there dangerous and fun too play with(but expensive again). Fool around with BC and GH and see what you like. BC are funner(in my opinion) but GH are more dangerous and flexible to fight against. actually i wonder if there are any competitive SW builds that include BC and do well.
Thanks for the advice, I'm curretly leaning more toward GH now after reading more into the abilities and my thinking at present is that the GH standard benifits my style of strategy.
