i am very confused with this, for example in my blood angels codex it says add up to five space marines.....+18pts per model or add up to twenty-seven death compony.......+20 per model
does that mean if you have more than five in your sqaud or more than twenty seven in yr squad u have to pay more or what
can u guys please explain me this in extreme detail,im very confused.
i realy need help please
Please avoid double posting, someone will answer your question when they find it but the response won't usually be instantaneous. Also, posting individual model costs is generally not an accepted practice, although I will admit there wasn't much of a different way you could have put your question which would have avoided saying this.
Right, well AFAIK (I'm not a BA player so I can't be certain) Death Company have different stats and rules to Space Marines. Therefore, if you want to add "ordinary" Space Marines to your squad then it costs the cost listed per Space Marine, and if you want Death Company to be added to the squad then it costs the price listed to add Death Company models to the squad. A Space Marine is, in this case, a reference to a specific statline, ruleset and equipment-set, rather than being a generic reference to the Astartes as a whole.
Apologies for the incredibly wordy response, just difficult to answer without specific mentions of points costs and such the like. Hope this explains it.
what i dont understand is that theey tell u that to have 5 marines it costs 100pts, but then in options it tells me that add up to five space marines.....+18pts per model it does not say the limit of how many marines i can have in one unit and it is not specific for the +18 points. do i add 18pts for every extra marine in my unit over 5 or what
You start with five space marines included in your initial cost, and can then add five more but each of those five will cost xxxpts.
I hope this explains it, once you understand it could you edit out the prices from your posts and PM me to let me know so I can do the same.

The listed points are for the models listed on the stats in thepoints section (assault squad 5, DC 3) and for every extra person you add *say another assault marine* then thez cost an additional number of points equal to what it sazs in the codex.
In 5th edition codexes (4th ed codexes did this different, so this explanation does not apply), you take a squad of a certain size for so many points. Extra bodies are added to the squad in the same fashion as wargear.
So, for example:
A basic squad of tactical marines cost X points. This squad is composed of 4 marines and a sergeant (5 models total). This can be found under the "Unit Composition" section of the unit listing. You cannot reduce the squad to less than this, so no way to make the squad cheaper or smaller than this basic squad.
You can then add bodies to that squad, one at a time, for Y amount of points, up to the maximum listed in the army list section. So a tactical marine unit can range from 5 models (for X amount of points) to 10 models (for X+5Y amount of points). Once you reach 10 models total (by paying the X+5Y points), you "unlock" other wargear options, like the special and heavy weapons (which also have their own point costs)
For Death Company, it's the same thing. A basic unit of death company starts off as 3 models for A points. You can then add a model at a time for B points. So a squad of death company will range from 3 models (for A points) to 30 models (for A+27B points). Armaments can be given to individual models for the listed cost.
So, to answer your specific questions:The first part. You have to pay a base cost for the unit composition. You have to pay more for each unit after your initial squad. Tactical squads come with 5 and you can add 5 more (at a cost of so many points per unit), death company come with 3 models and you can add 27 more (at a cost of so many points per unit). The additional cost is specific to the unit. Spare terminators will cost more than spare tactical marines.Originally Posted by bjamesb11Exactly this, at least for tactical marines. Again, refer to the "Unit Composition" section to see what a squad comes with. Any models over that are extra.Originally Posted by bjamesb11
Damnit Klajorne, why do you have to be so much better at explaining things than me?
