I have for a long time now wanted to start a IG army in 40K. Actually the only thing that have holding me back is that I don't fancy the Cadian plastics that much, they look real good but not for the feeling I want to go with IG. The models I love is Valhallans..but since it would be to expensive to buy an all metal army and to booring to way untill the (if ever) come out plastics I'm thinking about going towards my first idea: A Traitor Guard Army consisting of mutants and the such.
Now I got two questions concerning this idea. First of all should it be a IG army or a The Lost and the Damned? Or to rephrase the question..which of the two armies is best? Both have the key elements of Leman Russ, Basilisk and Missile Launchers.
Secondly: I will base my army on using zombie plastic box, orc plastic box and cadian plastic box. Would I be able to create a good looking army with theese ? I realise that it will take a lot of input but to be honest, that's exactly the kind of armyproject I'm heading for.
(Finally if going for the Lost and the Damned, si the Eye of Terror codex still available in normal GW stores?)
Well, you can't base your army on which one is best. Simply because there is no best army, it's all in how you use them. ^_^ I don't know a lot, but I'd say go with Guard simply because they're fun.
A good general does not lead an army to destruction just because he knows it will follow.

the choice is an obvious one
if you want mutants and zombies with a guard feel, then LatD is your best bet!
it's a good list, but not (i repeat) NOT a good list for begginers. not only is the pure conversion skills required a burden, but the army list can easily be made into crap.
however, if you know what you're doing. realize that LatD combines two of the strengths from CSM and IG, and love converting... then LatD is a great army.
w/ LatD you get Hordes (traitors/mutants), Tanks (Deflier, Bassie, Russ), Deamons!, and some Chaos Space Marines.
it's a really fun list, and allows for a lot of variety.
but yes, if you want zombies and mutants, than LatD is the army for you. just use lots of Nurgle Mutants!! >> Plague Zombies!!
You haven't said what god they worship, so I'll go ahead and suggest an undivided army I've been thinking about. If I were to do a LatD army I'd buy a box of cadians and a box of beastmen. Use the Gors as mutants, possibly with the +1S mutation, and put the Ungor heads on the guardsmen to use as traitors. You could also have some fun converting Gors with flamers or heavy stubbers, chainswords etc. You could use minotaurs or ogryns as big mutants.
I don't care much for the nurgly feel you get from zombies myself, but it's your money... :)
If you go for the IG codex you'll get a much more organised army without the more chaotic units, like mutants for example. The Blood Pact from the Gaunt's Ghosts series are a good example of an army of traitors. The main difference from a normal guard army will be in the conversions, although you could do something drastic like choosing warrior weapons or something.
Actually I have decided to do a LatD army. It will consists of mainly Traitors and just a few CSM, no daemons and a Leman Russ and Basilisk.
The god they will be worshipping is Tzeentch.
The 40k in 40min army I have come up with yet is as following:
CSM Aspiring Champion
Mark of Tzeentch: Doombolt. Pair of Lighting Claws, Daemonic Mutation (Chirurgeon) and Daemonic Strength.
going together with
Traitors, 15 w/ Plasma Gun and Autocannon.
Traitors, 10 w/ Plasma Gun and Missile Launcher.
Traitors, 5 w/ Plasma Gun.
A Tzeentch army without mutants? He is the lord of change you know.
but come on... you *gotta* throw some Deamons and Mutants in there it's the whole point to being LatD
i was also thinkig of going Tzeentch LatD with 3 squods of traitors, thosand sons squod, a leman russ, a basilik and a Sorcerer with mark of Tzeentch to lead it.
but what colour would Tzeentch traitors be

From now on i shell be known as the black vegetable
Let me give you some advice since I'm a chaos worshipper.i was also thinkig of going Tzeentch LatD with 3 squods of traitors, thosand sons squod, a leman russ, a basilik and a Sorcerer with mark of Tzeentch to lead it.
but what colour would Tzeentch traitors be
Tzeentch loves bright colours, so anything ranging from blue tot yellow ( and anytihng between that ) would do nicely.
yes the Latd is the way to go but in answer to your other question yes the eye of terror codex is still avaiable in GW stores
