if i'm correct, dreadnoughts are the bodies of space marines in a mechanical tomb that allows them to continue to serve the Emperor even in mostly dead states and that this honor is reserved only for His greatest marines
then shoudn't there be different kinds of Dreadnoughts? its like librarians and chaplains aren't good enough to serve the Emperor in near-death, NO only regular marines who haven't done anything signifigant(to a marine's standard) in their lives!
i'm just saying give every major HQ the option of being in a Dreadnought and make special rules for them, like a psychic power for librarians etc. etc. etc.
Pain is life, while I feel pain I still live, and while I still live I will seek vengance. We are few but strong in will

Now we sit in Hall of Gods
as cool as it would be, they would have to come up with so many upgrades for the dreadnoughts, and that would make sense.......
which is precisesly why GW won't do it.

What about my Space Wolf Venerable Dread?
I am the Aquila-Guerilla!
Or the Death Company??? Furioso??? Mortis??? Venerable???
These are all different ones, thank you very much. Oh yeah, and that stupid Grey Knight Dread.
However. . . . a Psychic one WOULD be awesome. . . . . .

Well, the Mortis dreadnought can only be used by DA (I think), the Furioso by BA and the death company dread is only used by the Flesh Tearers. It's not like there's a whole lot of choice for codex chapters.
Personally, I just wish Dreadnoughts could get better armour. I mean, come on! They are supposed to be solid adamantium, surrounded by powerful force fields. And all it takes to destroy one is some lucky Black Templar Initiate with a chainsword... (I did that on more than one occasion. )

Agree there armour is shizen. They die to easy on the battlefield. I don't agree they should be librarians. It is an honour bestoed on a heroic Space Marine. Librarians come from a different order.
Dont forget moriar the chosen of the BA
Ya we pay 100+ points for something that will die so easily from 1 lascannon shot!
drads cant die to troops anymore in CC since you have to take the front armour for armour pen.
a dread is not that as vulnerable as you might think. get it to cc and hell pay up is points in no time. and if you wounder how, DROP PODZ!!!!! ^_^
The problem I find is that their low number of attacks doesn’t make them effective against large units in close combat.
I believe you can still attack the rear armor of a dread in close combat, as long as it is immobilized when you assault it.
You could easily say that any librarian that may be entombed in the dreadnought is in capable of using any psychic powers because his body was too damaged to support it. Perhaps the process of interfacing the mostly dead marine causes too much trauma to the psychic nerves of the librarian’s brain.
I think modeling a dreadnought to be an ex-librarian might be a very cool conversion. It sounds like something the Blood ravens would do.
