Welcome to Librarium Online!
Greetings my Children. It is within this hallowed thread that you shall learn the secrets of the Marine, of the Bolter, of the Chainsword. Of all His righteous smiting equipment.
We are known as the Order of Less Obvious Knowledge.
For those who sign up, I ask of you, place what you like in your signature. You are your own master, and you shall do as you wish.
There shall be a ranking system. Which is as follows.
I am my own Master
You are your own Master
I only advise, not command.
And now, our first lesson. And the most fundamental lesson.
The cornerstone of your army. The basis of all our plans. It is so easy to ignore him, yet he is your most powerful warrior. Better armed and armoured than most foes you shall face, he will not falter in his duties.
You must however, use him correctly.
Learn when best to advance, when best to stand ground, and when best to retreat. Remember, there is no shame in retreat, so long as it helps crush your foes later!
Choose a role for your squads, and select their equipment carefully. Will they attempt to engage the opponent in close combat? Shoot him from afar? Adapt to changing situations? Below is a list of example space marine squad duties, and what I would equip them with. Learn, adapt, evolve.
Assault: Largest Squad Size possible, and an assault weapon (melta gun if you will be in close proximity of tanks, plasma gun for well armoured infantry, flamer for groups of weaker enemies). Mount them in a transport so as to make contact with the enemy as soon as possible. Either a rhino, razorback or drop pod. Consider equipping your sergeant with terminator honours and a power weapon or fist.
Shooting: Small squad size to maximise the amount of heavy weapons you can take. Take a heavy weapon suited to your opponent (Heavy Bolter for lightly armoured enemies, missile launchers for versatility, multimeltas for tanks, and lascannons for tanks at range). Keep them on foot, and stationary for as long as possible, so as to make best use of their weapons. Possibly invest in a plasma gun if the enemy may get close.
Tank Hunters: 6 Man Squads, with a multimelta, meltagun, and within a razorback with twin lascannons. Hug cover, and get close to the enemy. Park within 6 of their tanks, and fire away.
Versatile: Try to stay away from this option. Not focusing on one objective will make the squad on the whole, less effective. If you must (because you do not know what you will be facing, or because you are not confident in your ability to focus with other squads) then take a 6-8 man squad, with a heavy weapon and an assault weapon. Stay stationary until the enemy come within 12. If they are powerful in close combat, remain still and shoot with everything, including rapid fire bolters. If not, charge them.
Use your marines well, and they shall win you many battles. Focus on one objective, and complete it. But always remember that a marine is good at everything. Should they fail at their objective, do not loose hope. They can complete other objectives too.
Next lesson will be the importance of other infantry units. Even more specialised than your base tactical squads, it is these units that will add extra punch to your army.

That is a link to Sun Tzu’s art of war. Read it in your own time, and realise the genius within. Though some is not applicable to a tabletop battle game, much is, and will give you many pointers and ideas to help you win battles.
I live in your eyes
I see your making an offshoot of my order that is for Black Templar players.
offshoot my buttocks
surely a bt clan (more specialised) would be an offshoot of a pure sm one.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'>i know, in todays world, the weak are protected, so evolution is now non-existant for humans. To keep the race moving forwards, there should be tests to see if you are good enough to have kids- k-tana</div>
Offshoot? No, this is a discrete centre of learning from your own. Mine is slightly broader in scope than yours. Keep yours to yourself, and i will do the same.
I live in your eyes
I completly agree with you Ktana. they will remain seperate as we will respect eachothers teachings and continue them seperatly
Have been a long time student of Master Sun Tzu.
Do you wish us to merely read it (or say we have read it), or are we to be given scenarios to analyse and critique?
Greetings from Planet X, I hope you enjoy your day.

Read it for now. If i need you to focus on a specific point, I will make it clear in forthcomming lessons. But for now, get an overview of Sun Tzu's thinking and mentality.
