Ok. I've decided to create my own chapter - Nothing overly flamboyant, but based on Militant Orders such as the Knights Templar, Teutonic Knights etc. Firstly, I need to confirm a name for the chapter. I've had some ideas, but feel free to rearrange them etc, whatever sounds best - bearing in mind I want to keep with the Crusader/Richard the Lionheart/Templar theme. Something along the lines of:

Knights of the Cruciform Sword,
Templars of the Lion,
The Lion's Claws,
Sons of the Lionheart,

But not them, because they're crap...

The first main model I will be doing is the Grand Master, naming him something like Richard de Montfort (You get the idea). This will probably be the most eye-catching model of the army, as I plan to use the body of one of the special dark angels with the robes, cut his head off, put on the head from the Empire Knightly Orders boxed set (The one with the wreath on his head). That done, I intend to use Marneus Calgar's backpack, on top of which I will put the halo from the Witch Hunters character Saint Celestine. Also, to further fit with the ornate, knightly feel, I shall use Deathwatch Shoulder pads - Not as ornate as the GK ones, but still good.

Equipment wise, I shall give him a holstered pistol, or something simillar, and with regards to close combat weapons, I am torn between a Thunder Hammer (Ties in with the puritanical, crusading theme of the army), Lightning Claw (They're good, but not necessarily good for purposes of historical interest/accuracy, or the good old fashioned Power sword (Fits historically as well as being an average weapon). I am also outfitting him with a big metal shield from the Knights of Chaos (Obviously filing away all the heretical imagery), which I intend to equip as a Storm Shield - why not I ask. Also, as expected, the model will be decked out with purity seals etc, and suitable iconography.

With regards to colour scheme, I am still largely undecided, although it will probably features red, gold and white...

To go with the Grand Master, I suppose I'll end up buying a tactical squad and dolling it up with bits and pieces, along with a box of the delectable new veterans , and the other army fluff you'd expect for a SM chapter...

Next week, I can start getting the stuff together...

Okay here is a idea for a Crusading Monster in CC (if you want to keep the Hammer idea)

1. Drop the Storm Shield, it negates the use of a Pistol.
2. Hammer is cool but it does strike last (be wary)
3. Replace the Storm Shield with a Combat Shield (5+ invun in HtH)
4. Make the pistol a master-crafted Plasma Pistol or something similarily ornate.
5. The Emperors Champion helm is very sexy.
6. Add an Iron Halo for a 4+ invun, it will negate the Combat Shield but the model will look cool.
7. Ditch the Dark Angels robes, id go for more of a Inquistorial feel, something like Cortez link here:
Cortez Model

Last of all go write some fluff and get the new codex and make some traits for your crusading warriors of the Imperium.

Other than that, good luck.

Invicticus.

agree with invicticus about the pistol, but keep your shield. if you use the iron halo than the combat shield is a waste and becomes unimportant, maybe graft the pistol in the shield or some jazz along those lines.
i already use inviticus's idea for 4 and 7. make him stand out, but you may not be able to fit the backpack...

Erm... there's already a Space Marine Chapter themed on Crusaders/ the Knights Templar. They're called the BLACK TEMPLARS *fanfare*. They wear the Maltese cross, have no homeworld (they crusade eternally) and actually designed a Land Raider variant called the Crusader. PM me or Blood God for more information about them.

I knew about the templars, yes, but I want a more mediaeval theme, as mediaeval as I could get, hence the chaos stuff. The halo was just for aesthetics really, I hadn't thought of using it.

Also, the use of something like the Cortez model kind of destroy the mediaeval crusader image. I thought the DA would be appropriate as the Knights Templar wore long tabards with the sign of the Cross upon them... :hmm:

Ok, can I do this: Use the halo for the 4+ Inv, use the shield for aesthetics, and still have a pistol? Only, I'd really rather keep the shield - even if it is only to give the model depth - as it's a pretty major link with the theme...

As for the Champion's helm, I was thinking of something similar, and perhaps adding a plume from the Knightly Orders box...

I believe you can keep the shield for modeling puposes as long as you don't use it in battle and don't count it in your army list. I think you can do this but I am not sure.

I think the model would look really cool though.

Sounds good to me.

I'll get all the extras I need next week, and then it'll be on to the modelling...

If you want a truly medieval theme then try a few of my ideas out.

Replace all the space marine heads with Brettonian Knights helmets.

Every marine should wear his own heraldry and possibly be accompanied by a couple of squires to look after his weapons.

Instead of marines on bikes mount them on horses and have them carry huge lances. For the purposes of the game they could still be classed as marines on bikes but they'd look a lot cooler.

On second thoughts don't do any of the above things. They're my ideas and I want to use them!!

Witchfinder General:

Since you have SAXON in your sig how about something Saxon-like?

Try a name with Fyrd or Huscarles

or Drakkan

or Thanes
