Im a Tau player and the most common army i come against is Space marines, but i barely ever win because space marines dont seem to have any weaknesses, there as fast as tau are, more armoured, decent firepower and various other stuff.
So can any Sm players tell be what some space marines weaknesses are?

Relative numbers... Not very big squad sizes, and fairly expensive units, compared to (most) other armies.
Bring in some more heavy weaponry that beats their save, and bring down squad numbers fast. This will force them into leadership saves which they are bound to fail sometime...

Just sit back and out range him whatever rail guns, ion cannons the like that you have. Also when you get into rapid fire range get as many fire warriors friring at them that wll hurt (talking from experience).

Everytime i face a Tau army I lose because I get mowed down by the abundance of broadsides and hammerheads.

The way to beat Space Marines is MASSED firepower. You can shoot them first and pulse rifles hurt more than bolters. Also take two hammerheads and drop pieplate sub-munitions at max range possible along with smart missle systems. For biger targets ie HQ's use seeker missles. also use stealth suits to thier advantage; several teams of three all shooting at the same squad just out side of 14-16 in to avoid a charge. There is lots of things. I would say read back topics in the tau forum (which this should be in) lots of tau players have problems with smurfs. The one thing to avoid now is deepstriking terminators because they will rip you to shreds. Well I am not going to write a book here in the SMurfs forum on how to beat Smurfs.

The more ap3 or better weapons you can field the easier it will be.
Like the others said, get as much firepower as you can against the squads to force them in to leadership checks. Also the more shots you have, the saves we have to make. (We have to fail those 3-up saves some time)
Also, if you are having trouble with marines getting up close, get some kroot.
