I was wondering if more people are going to be using Command Squads with the release of the new dex?

personally i like the idea of command squads, and now the Captains will hopefully not be just thrown into the heart of the enemy in a bloody death orgy... (Ld10 everywhere)...

will command squads make a comeback?

Well, considering the bulk-size can of whoopass you can get, I think they will at least make a comeback in CC armies.
If you go all-out you can get a unit with four power weapons(or LC, TH etc.), terminator honours, banner and furious charge (or infiltrate  ). Then you can attach a character, or three, to the unit too. The Librarian and Chaplain can be attached to another characters command squad without taking up an HQ-slot of their own...

They can of course be made pretty shooty too, with two heavy or special weapons as well as tank hunters, maybe with an HQ techmarine leading it, but it's not quite as eye-popping =)

Add a Librarian/chaplain/whatever (or both  ). With the vet sergeant, Captain, and company champion, thats something like 6 power weapons. Add a couple of assault weapons (you can have two heavy or special weapons), and you will run right over just about anyone.

I didn't say its cheap, but in some games it can be a good investment.

As for the getting shot part, tahts what meatwall marines are for.

if you want to make it 1000, give them a crusader

theres no such thing as meat wall marines as most of the time we are outnumbered every little helps. I will be using a command squad with all the upgraded charachter but not a mega cc monster unit, kinda striking I fine balance between uber cc target command squad and command squad taht will have to make leadership tests after every shot.

I fully intend on taking a terminator command squad to escort my terminator librarian around. There's nothing like deep striking terminators to focus your opponent's heavy weapon fire
The enemies of the Emperor fear many things. They fear discovery, defeat, despair and death. Yet there is one thing they fear above all others. They fear the wrath of the Space Marines!

More than 40 marines in a 1000 point force? That's me.

W/D/L

Dwarfs 1/0/0 (Reset due to new rules)

Space Marines 0/0/0 (still under construction)

They've become much better in the new codex. Points sink to 15, and still being able to take veteran skills. Plus - two characters in each! Yummy!!
