Well I played in the 1000 pts tourtiment and boy did I get an education on other armies !
First I played WH, using omega (escalation doh!, oh and dawn for first turn doh!. I was able to deploy everything but my RR, LR and Basilisk and special weapons squad. Most of the early on fighting went my way, but my inability to kill the Coneases proved to be my undoing. His Serephi came up and torched two command squads, but they were in a nice tight group. My special weapons squad came down and released the demo charge on them and killed all but 1 (something about a faith point for 3+ I or something). Then that one promptly went behoind my basilisk and planted a meltabomb. Doh! Everything was pretty much cc from there on in, my RR did nothing because the enemy HQ all of a sudden got I6 and was able to kill 3, while my vet sgt with HI only caused 1 wound. The rest ran away and were slaughterd. I ended up with just my LR against a small squad of sisters with the HQ, Immolator and 2 sisters with heavy bolters. This was a really nasty army to play because of the invulnarible saves. It was also my first experience with escalation, not to pleased with it.
My next battle was against a rather small SW army. This was a great battle, where there were 3 counters worth 200 and victory pts calculated at the end. The battle was pretty bad from the 2nd turn (I immobilized his landspeeder behind a building in his deployment zone). I shook his rhino 3 times and after it got rid of its cargo and was just a pain I immobilized it (I hit it with a battlecannon, lascannon and 2 ML). Wolfscouts with a melta came behind my basilisk and torched it. He left a squad in a tight group in a bunker (4+I) next to a counter and I could not kill them. They took 3 battlecannon shots (hitting 5-6 each time) and 2 ML shots. He made about 20 cover saves at least. I ended up losing by 200+ , if I could have killed that squad it would have been a draw...Doh !
My last battle against Ultramarines was cleanse using omega again (dawn again). I wasnt to happy with escalation or dawn as it would allow him to get in close before I could bring down fire. He also had his whole army on right away (exept for deepstriking termies in turn 2). Nothing from both sides hit on 1st turn. 2nd Turn I went right after his devestators, ultimatly sending a demo charge there way. All died in the 10 men squad except for the plasma cannon (he would later get a lascannon shot). His termies deepstriked and tore into my command squads. I zapped one with a lascannon but they got into the trees and assaulted all 3 of my command squads, killing them all but holding them for the game (one guardsmen killed a termie ). My RR assaulted his command squad (Vet Sgt, chaplain, plasmagunner, apothicary and 2 normal), and got tangled up but eventually killed them all but the apothicary ( I had the vet sgt and one rider left). The terrain was rather good to me forcing him into firing lanes which allowed me to rapid fire lasguns at him alot, which ended up under sheer numbers taking down his squads. Eventually when the tanks came they forced him to seek cover, where I picked them off. 3 quadrants were contested and I had one. I ended up winning by 400+. Another good game as the 3 termies were relatively unopposed in the middle of my base (although facing a basilisk shot and 2 full squads fire).
wow were to begin. I am definitly going to read up on the WH, they have some real nasty surprises. CC is definitly something to prepare for as everyone was assaulting me and winning. RR scared everybody and got shot up alot, for 119 pts total including the horrifica imperialis and hunting lances its a nice squad to have. Escalation although it allows you to deploy all your troops (I had 83 models total), really knocks the firepower out of your army. Not getting your tanks till turn 2-3 is a pain. I can say I really wished my GM was there, but I didnt want him in 1000 pts (one category of scoring is composition of forces). Overall I scored relatively high in sportsmenship, and composition, but the two games I lost were really close and I should be able to turn them into wins in the next tourtiment.

this should not be a surprise  we aren't known for our martial artsi've been thinking of whipping up a squad or two, of RR. glad to hear they're successful.Originally posted by 311@ Nov 14 2004, 10:19

but after their preformance, would you think it'd be best to just save points and not have HonImp? and just have a vet w/ Hlance?i can't really sympathize with ya...Originally posted by 311@ Nov 14 2004, 10:19

all my escalation games have been slaughters (wins).
do you have enough infantry based heavy weapons? (in a 1000 i run with ~9-10)
can't put *all* your faith in tanks

and in the end... it's that what matters the most ?
but next time you better lay down the ass wuppin....
I had 2 ML's and 3 LC's for heavy weapons. The whole point of having HI is that it gives him base 3 attacks and 4 inititive. Combined with the charge with a hunting lance, he can beat most characters (hes killed 2 int-chaplains before they got to strike back). The RR really keep the enemy honest, when I assaulted in the last game they moved a total of 24" (rolled a six for fleet of hoof). Like I said the last escalation game I won easily but when the two best weapons you have don't show up, it gets hard. I mean if terminators don't show up till turn 4, im sure that person would tell you the same.
