Well it had to happen. With the codex out new interesting things can happen. The army I thought up would be a drop pod army.
Termie command squad with 2 assult cannons in drop pod
3 venerable dreads W/ assult cannons in drop pods
3 normal dreads W/ assult cannons in drop pods
5 5 man marine squads W/ melta guns in drop pods
So would it work? Does it have a chance?
Before you jump to complain here are it's bad points
Comes in peicemeal
Only 36 guys
No long range firepower
Nothing on the table to start (first turn doesnt matter)
Can deep strike no matter mission parameters
The statistical law of averages says that almost every time during the first turn you will get 6 things in.
Each thing that shows up has a 50/50 shot to take out a tank with armor 12. So...3 dead tanks on average if that is what you want.
You can land directly on the enemy with no problems So you can isolate part of the enemy with no problems and potentially eliminate a good 200-300 pts the turn you show up.
well, *****. sorry bout that, first post.
Anyhoo, what i wanted to say was that the lack of long-range firepower shouldn't be a big prob as you will be dropping yourself right down the opponents a**. While this may be my love for Blood Angels breaking through, i think u should tool up for CC. but otherwise, great list! it will likely be the last thing your opponent will expect!

Imperial Guard 1/1/1</span>

Your army will work against most shooty armies (most IG, Tau, some Eldar, some Iron Warriors).
But any dedicated close combat army will pretty much walk over you.
Dropping into close combat with Tyranids, Wyches or World Eaters is only a good idea when you are nasty in CC yourself. and at the moment I cannot see that in your armylist.
5 man tactical squads don't have enough staying power. and they are missing powerweapons/powerfists. Try to make that 2 squads of 10 and add some vet sarges.
Loyal Terminators come with powerfists. against proper close combat troops they will most likely be dead before they can even strike back. And do not forget that on the first turn you arrive you can only shoot but not assault yourself. I would go for assault termies insted.
Who leads your army btw? I guess sone kind of character in Terminator armour, but you didn't say.
I like that you have lots of Dreadnoughts. That might help. It give you some lasting power and the venerable guys will last even longer. Nids will tear them apart. most Khorne armies I met didn't have too much problems with them either. but then again, that was when you could still attack their backside in hth.
So I guess at the moment the list has its strengths, but I think too many weaknesses to work against dedicated close combat armies.
Shut up and play.
Hmmm an interesing list,
how many points would this set you back?
All those dreads!
How would I attempt to counter with Tau?
Well Mech Tau is the way for me, so paramiters allowing I'd deepstrike a fair few things myself and with mounted FW's I'd rely on speed to scoot away when the big boys arrived.

Eek, run away. There's only four of us left! (||)
I don't know if you've thought about it, but since drop pods are vehicles now you will have to have models for them. They also cost 30 points each although you can arm them too.
Forge World makes some, but they're £45 each... I suppose you could build some though, their shape is pretty simple.
Do you really have 6 dreadnaughts? If not, do you really WANT to purchase 6 dreadnaughts? I'm guessing not.
Purge all the heretics,
Kill the alien scum,
Suffer not the unclean to live,
And have a beer when you're done.
...........do not do a drop pod army...i used one in a torny and i had 3 drednoughts, 5x5 man squads with melta's and sopme other stuff...it dosent work any good...DO NOT HAVE A DROP POD ARMY@!!!!!
P.S. Blood angels rule, the anger lets us ignore wounds ...hehehe
Can't Drop Pods mount 10 regular marines? I may have misread the new drop pods, but I remember seing the number 10.
