why do most sm characters remove their helmets. do they have some sort of force field or something. i don't see the advantages of having no helmet on really, their heads are just as likely targets as anywhere else
I have no clue. Its kind of like why IG officers where hats instead of helmets.

There is no other reason than the fact that GW want to make some characters that stick out and give them a sense of... well.. character... nobody says that your characters have to have their helmets off but it does add a bit of variation to the minis...
..and don't worry... Space Marines can breathe under water and survive in space without any equipment if they have to...
for real reasons, i guess its to inspire the men, and give orders clearer etc.
lets them look more cool and they can sculpt cleansingage faces on them, as in "be cleansed you heretic scum"
but it makes em stand out, bad if you are fighting a vindicare assassin.:shifty:

It is so they can shout orders easily, and show that they are not afraid. Their faces also show the scars of battle which are more of a badge than many a reward.Originally posted by iron_hand@Nov 18 2004, 16:47

usually its pretty easy to just get a rounded drummel tool bit and drill the head out (the head will be nuthin but a pile of metal :shifty: ) then just stick a space marine helmet in the hole you made. Always works for me
Peter-"You gonna eat that stapler?"
Office worker-"Uhh sir you cant eat-"
Peter-"Wanna split it?...."
O and think of the better vision it gives you!
Ok but can they take a bolt round to the head and not get harmed either?..and don't worry... Space Marines can breathe under water and survive in space without any equipment if they have to...
The idea is to make the sergeants/leaders stand out of the crowd.
Just do as sigismund sais, drill away the head and replace it with a regular helmeted one....if you like that better though...

Must be to inspire their space marines and stuff, but I agree that a bolter round to the head would be pretty devastating, when you consider what bolt rounds do...

It's simple.Your hair can't blow heroicly in the wind if you have a helmet on.And for bald commanders, nobody can see all those tough looking scars unless you take off your helmet. It's all about the image babey!
