i am new to imperial guard and just wonderin whether what i am gettin is good for a beginner.
Cadian imperial guard hq command set
Cadian shock troops x2
Imperial Guard And Chimera
Imperial Guard Cadian Sentinel Variant
Imperial Guard Leman Russ Battle Tank (mk 2)
just so u know your gonna need 2 junior officer and 8 more shock troops (4 in each command squad) so you might want to get rid of the sentinal and use that money for those
so your first mini list will be
Hq command platoon
2 platoons with 2 sqauds each
armord fist squad

HQ - Command Squad (for which you have the HQ Box set)Originally posted by silver_star127@Nov 20 2004, 17:11

Troop - Here is where things are different for IG. They dont buy single squads, they buy platons, and each platoon needs a junior command squad and 2 infantry squads minimum. So if you wanted your two compulsary troop choices, i would get 3 IG troop box sets (60 men - 50 for squads, and 10 to use in HQ squads) and a blister pack of junior officers. This will give you enough for
Troop 1 - 1 Infantry Command Squad and 3 Infantry Troop Squads
Troop 2 - 1 Infantry Command Squad and 2 Infantry Troop squads
The Chimera transport box you would get can be used as a 3rd troop choice, the leman russ as a Heavy suport choice, and the sentinal can either be a fast attack choice, or it can tag onto the command squad as an addition to HQ.
That gives you;
HQ - Command squad and Sentinal support unit
Troop 1 - Infantry platoon (5 man command + 3x10 man infantry squads)
Troop 2 - Infantry Platoon (5 man command + 2x10 man infantry squads)
Troop 3 - Armour Fist Support Squad with Chimera
Heavy Support - Leman Russ Battle Tank
So you need to buy;
Command Box set
3X Cadia troop box set
Chimera + infantry box set
Junior Officer (lt) blister pack
Leman russ box
If you needed to drop someting to get the junior officers and extra infantry box, then drop the chimera as its the least vital out of everything, and if you have any cash left over, then get a heavy weapon box set (three platforms) and place a platform in each of troop 1's squads.
Hope that helps clear things out
wow thanks that realy helps but what is a armoured fist squad, im kind of new sorry
an armoured fist squad is a squad of "normal" guardsmen mounted up in a Chimera... this is not a platoon, but only a squad
Even if I might not be overly helpful, I strongly suggest you reconsider buying anything for your army before you haven't read the codex thoroughly... IG are an unforgiving and expensive (money-wise) army, so you'll end up frustrated if you find out that your army composition doesn't match your style / the army doesn't achieve what it oughta do. If you lack the money for the codex, see if you find someone to borrow it from, at least. It saves you a lot of problems.
Malefiz definatly has a point. If you can go to a GW store and ask if you can sit and read their store copy of the IG codex (so as your not damaging the shelf "stock" copies). Get a good idea of the troops you want and then start looking at the models. Will you want lots of light infantry who sit and shoot? Elite, well trined troops who deepstrike into the enemy? Hoards of tanks and heavy weapons? A mix of the above?
What you already decided upon will be a good base for a generic army, and those units are pretty adaptable into any stratagy, but its still best to have an overall view of what you want the army to be. Mine fo instance is an infantry based army, so heavy weapon platoons instead of tanks, and lots and lot of rank and file soldiers.
The models you intended to buy is enough for a legal army, especially if you can convert a little.
You need 1 HQ and two troops, the minimum amount of models for that is:
1 command HQ, from the HQ box
1 plutoon command squad, build from plastic using the head in the Chimera box (you'll know which one) on the junior officer.
2 infantry squads, build from plastic as usual.
1 armoured fist squad, from plastic models and the Chimera.
For that you'll need the command HQ box, 35 men in plastic (2 boxes gives five models extra) and a Chimera. If you want you could convert the command HQ from plastic as well, freeing up some money for a heavy weapons box, but you'll need some extra bitz to make the senior officer interesting then. You could always get the command HQ box later if you really want it.
If by "Imperial Guard And Chimera" you mean the new Chimera squad box with ten men and a Chimera in it you'll have no trouble at all with men. You could look up the "Imperial Guard Starter Army" as well. It has a Chimera, Leman Russ, 30 plastic guardsmen and three heavy weapon teams as well as a codex and a paintset, some tools, brushes, flock etc. I don't know if you save much money but if you're going to buy it separately you might as well get the big box.
