Welcome to Librarium Online!
I am really aggravated with myself. I love Space Marines, and yet at the same time I hate them with a fiery passion. Mostly, I love them because - the models, the potential fluff, the new Trait system, and they are outnumbered more often than not. I hate them simply because EVERYONE plays them, they really do get too much attention, and I don't want to be a part of an everyone thing. How can I make a "different" Space Marine army (that is not Daemonhunters, still using the new SMurf codex) so that I won't be called a noob, etc.?
Do what I do.Come up with some interesting fluff, then build an army around it. Usualy you can come up with all kinds of cool creative stuff if you do the fluff first.
hes got a good point, its the base idea for my sm and ive never had to look back and say my guys are the same. ever played a guy whos sm who are the last loyal members of a now chaos legion.
were small in number and have much more to fight for, ec forever...
Take my love, take my land, take me to where I cannot stand; I don't care I'm still free, you can't take the sky from me.

Stand out from the rest of the space marine players by actually winning, thats what I do heh. Most space marine players are horrible.. Learn to use them well and you'll stand out trust me
Also conversions do help, Im not a fluff person at all but I like my army to look a bit unique. That is mostly accomplished tho by your painting style

I wouldn't worry about anyone calling you a "noob", they'll change there mind after you clean there clock. Also alot of good players whoplay SM arn't new; or instance I've been playing for five years, and just started 2 weeks ago. When I went to play tday I found 4 other players all with SM..., but the styles of play differ. For instance my army using BA, obviously assaults, where as an Ultramarine player was shooty. So if your looking for something different pick a chapter that follows a certain style. Oh and is it different enough to have really small tac squads due to black rage, and most of your army having jetpacks? How about not getting to shoot at a rhino 30" away with your ML because your guys are such in a frenzy that they move out of cover to get at them? If you look for it, you will find something different then the norm.

I you want a different army, try a 10th company army. Only scouts as troops, scout bikers, land speeders with converted pilots (converted into scouts of course :) and an infiltrating command squad to represent the 10th company captain and command staff.
Why not play a rare Chapter? How about White Scars?
If you don't know what you want you end up with a lot of stuff you don't.
