Every one has assasult chapter Fever its like that fleash eating bacteria, it kills and its absoulutly hilarious to watch it kill other cell's(not the human)
but why is it that every one seems to wanna go assault style...the reason why i a posting this is because i wanna know people's reason for an assault chapter...
what is your reason for an assualt chapter?
P.S. Blood angels rule, the anger lets us ignore wounds ...hehehe
I play SW, so by the nature of my chapter, the army is geared up for assault. But i am choosing a new direction for my army and tooling up on Terminators - not cheap, point wise or from my pocket.
Reason being i mainly play against nid's, and as such i am going to get a shooty termi Wolf Guard, and a CC termi Wolf Guard. This way i can tear shreds out of them in shooting, and still get to assault with both squads, tool up on power weapons, power fists and chainfists, and the xeno-threat will fall. And then of course have the CC go in as well with Thunder hammers, Lightning claws, etc and bye bye nids.
This is by no means a normal SW army, and my BC's and GH will by no means left out of the fun, i just want some muscle and firepower going in, if i am to be engaged in hand to hand combat indefinately.
4th edition really means you have to define the characteristic of your army greater than ever before. Due to Rapid Fire weapons not being able to shoot before assaulting, you need to toll your army up if you are going into CC. If you stand back and shoot, no problem, but if you like taking the battle to the enemy you need to make sure you have some clout when you get close.
Space Wolves are badasses that operate just barely within the rules.
13th Co. didn't even know there were rules applying to how badass they could be.
... and Daemonhunters make it three - now just need a spare room to store it all!!!
Why do I have an Assaulty army? Hmm... let me think. Maybe it's because I play Black Templars and they're one of the three 'CC specialist' Chapters?

Consider this, in the last five years i've played Eldar, Necron and IG and one thing has come clear to me... a properly played assault army will win everytime considering some missions you start as close as 18" away from the nearest enemy. The two times i've lost with my BA is because I was over aggresive and got slaughterd on turn 1 by my enemys shooting. As for why I play BA specifically, I think its halarious that your squads against your will can move forward because they get black rage. So many times i've had my anti-tank squads move out of cover when they have a clear shot at a rhino, to have my opponent laugh...I think its great, especially when it doesnt matter because I just reck his assault squad in cc anyway
I have noticed this aswell. I thought space marines where supposed to be balanced but so many people including my brother ore using Smurfs like nids in power armour which although being superhuman and insanely brave just doesnt seem to fit in with the fluff about them being small numbered elites. In reality a small force like that would want to prevent getting tied up in CC until the last possible moment but thats just my opinion
He who fights and runs away, lives to fight another day!
Certain chapters are specialized to take the fight to the enemy and in BA and FT case they have to die in combat otherwise they will go insane from Black rage. I think it makes sence fluff wise too; humans were getting beat down by the aliens so the Emperor made SM. Now I don't think IG have a problem with shooting so im going to go ahead and say SM are meant to fight in cc. Thats why there used to board ships and that.Originally posted by Lazarus84@Nov 29 2004, 07:24

The reason is quite simple. If you look at all the other close combat oriented armies in the game, they generally have low saves and horrible shooting like orks and nids. Now marines have better stats across the board. They have the saves to walk in the open in front of guns with little fear and they can shoot better than almost any other army on their way to combat. So if it's the difference between a few poorly armored and horribly innacurate units and a good marine or two, I'll take the marine any day.
As for myself, I generally detest the close combat marine armies. I think straight going for the assault is a big cop-out and an overly simple way to play the game.
The enemies of the Emperor fear many things. They fear discovery, defeat, despair and death. Yet there is one thing they fear above all others. They fear the wrath of the Space Marines!

I played a funny game the otherday against Necrons. The mission was Recon (no unit within 24") and I ended up forcing my opponent into a little box. He has so respectful of my assault units that he stayed away from my army the whole game, but still being in a box I got 2 units into his deployment; and the game ended with 2 necron casualties to none. I'd have to say that going straight out assault is a mistake (thats how I lost twice), but if your tactical about it, you can really dictate the flow of the game. As opposed to sitting back and outshooting your opponent which believe me is boring (comming from someone who plays Guard).
i just think cc is more fun. its not about winning. i just like the idea of laying into people with my tooled up characters/specialised squads. i don't mind people doing that to me either ie. i don't mind fighting daemon princes so its not like its a one sided thing...
its just personal preference. i think that cc is just more fun than shooting
(except when i use dark reapers they've been doing particularly well recently)
it's like he said, it's more of a preference. i love CC. i find it more fun and interesting, probably because of the training I do w/ samurai swords and the like. it's all up to the player which is better
