Am starting a Daemonhunter army and the biggest problem people face is the low numbers in the Demonhunter army. So in my Daemonhunter army I was going to include 3 squads of kasrkins thats 30 kasrkins, all squads with either melta guns or plasma guns just for that good assault weapons, that also the Daemonhunter army is lacking. But with this Am was also going to include a 5 man squad of grey knights and also 5 man squad of terminators. But the real question is wiether or not to base my army on Kasrkins?
The Predator Lingers forth. Suddenly the sound of several wipping sounds can be heard far off into the distance, a second later the once mighty Predator ignited with flames. "Sir what was that" The srgt replied "Its those damn Broadsides"
Hear the wip, fear the Broadside.
well, i used to be in the same camp as you, i didnt like using a lot of gk and the stormies are super cool. i revised my plan for a stormie heavy army when a sob force with lots of heavy flamers and an immolator killed every storm trooper i had in one turn (no armour saves) they die very easily to most armies, and nids, tau and guard are about the only things that they can shoot effectively, other than that it will be your assault weapons doing all the work, ant thats mighty expensive for two bs 4 plasma weapons. if you want a lot of kasrkin go with at least one more unit, because you will need to win the numbers game against a squad of marines. you might want to consider keeping a unit with flamers or grenade launchers - templates are a wonderful thing! i like the idea though, be sure to throw a inq in to one squad with a vet, and a few assassins - that would be enough power weapon attacks to make anyone think twice about assaulting you. it will also be an expensive force to make. i think it would be tactically fun though!
First, don't think of them as Kasrkin. They aren't. Kasrkin are elite Cadian troops. Daemonhunters use Inquisitional Stormtroopers. They're taken from different places, trained differently, equipped differently, etc. Kasrkin just happen to be one of the choices for models, thats all.
The problem with basing an army off IST is a lack of heavy weapons and CC power, neither of which the IST can get. But you mentioned including a few GK, so the CC aspect is covered. You'll still need heavy weapons though, so include at least a few Chimeras for your IST to ride in (multilasers are better than nothing). A Dreadnought would require a GK Hero, and would shift the focus of the army away from IST, so I'd stay away from that.
Take an Inquisitor Lord to lead your army into battle, with a retinue of 3 Gun servitors, 2 Sages, and a Mystic. That'll give you a nice ranged kick. Then 3 units of IST, all with 2x of the same type of weapon (I'd say one squad with plasma, one with melta, and the third with either plasma or GL's). Put all three in transports, preferrably Chimeras for the added firepower. Another alternative is to make a CC Lord (in transport), and just count on the multilasers/heavy bolters of the transports as your heavy weapons, plus the IST's meltaguns for those high-AV tanks.
I'd actually steer clear of terminators. They're rock hard, but they won't last long unsupported in combat, which the rest of your army won't effectively do (especially considering the amount of points invested in the terminators). I'd rather have two squads of GK to one squad of terminators, and since thats about the cost ratio, its possible. Maybe two FA squads of GK, and teleport homers on all the Vet sergeants?
Since you'll have so many transports, I'd also suggest taking Death Cult Assassins. One of my favorite DH tactics is to march one of these girls behind each vehicle to block her from LoS. Once the squad is spit out, they have a DCA to help protect them from anyone who'd want to charge them! If you have three IST squads in transports, you can take three DCA as one Elite choice and pair them up nicely.
