Just trying to make sure what I'm doing is legal...
-According to GW, I can get around having to buy the Storm Troopers or Grenadiers doctrine in order to have STs by having Inquisitional Storm Trooper Allies. In doing this, would these ISTs be considered elites?
-According to the Catachan Codex, I can pay for any character or unit so that they can be a part of my "regular" IG army. So I can save about 20 points in buying Deathworld Veteran Colonels and Captians instead of buying HSOs and JOs. In doing so, does the Cameleoline I have for my whole army affect these guys? Or do they stick with the DWV rules?
ISTs would be counted as troops. Allies aren't allowed in semi-finals and above in GTs, according to a friend, but that's not a big drawback (who makes it to semi-finals in GT anyway?).

Ok for one allies is not a loop hole. It is a rule all on its own. Second you must use all of the catachan codex in other to play catachans otehr wise you must use the new codex. To better explain it. You may use the catachan codex except the first page explaining how deathworld vet may be in a normal IG army for X pts.

Where can I find the rules for taking allies? It's not in the IG codex. I haven't gotten the 4th Ed. rulebook yet, is it in the 3rd? Or will I have to look in the Daemonhunters army codex?Crap... Back to the drawing board :realmad: So I can't put any DWV characters or units in my "regular" army at all? Where does GW make this distinction? I made a post where I asked if the Catachan Codex was still legal. Some said it is until GW updates it. How can I have a codex that is partially legal? It hasn't been written in the GW FAQs.You may use the catachan codex except the first page explaining how deathworld vet may be in a normal IG army for X pts.
As the only allies that can be taken are Demonhunter and Witchhunters, the rules for taking allies are in their respective codex.Originally posted by QuiZahn@Dec 9 2004, 12:51

hmm... I would be curious to see if they really said this or not. could someone please point out where this is clarified? You may use the catachan codex except the first page explaining how deathworld vet may be in a normal IG army for X pts
(it certainly makes sense, as a few of the doctrines in the new codex have similar effects, and being able to stak them might be a little too good)
Actually, you can take Ordo Xenos Kill-teams and Kroot mercenaries too :)Originally posted by Knape97@Dec 9 2004, 20:22

Codex: Catachan ... is ... dead.
v3 FAQ said that it was legal as long as you used a PURE catachan force. but it was not reprinted in the v4 FAQ. in addition, Codex: Catachan is out of print. and anything out of print is not legal.
of course, anything you do w/ your friends doesn't matter but just don't take your DWvets to a GT.
Jungle Fighters from now on
saying that "codex catachan says i can use DWvet in any ig army" is like saying "codex: assassin says i can use an eversor w/ my ig w/out an inq".
Where abouts are the rules for those respective allies? I asume Kroot is in Codex: Tau, but kill-teams? Didn't see then in Codex: SM, a Chapter Approved perhaps?Originally posted by Tubal@Dec 10 2004, 00:40

kroot allies can be found in chapter approved 2003 and 2004, and they're quite fun. I'm using a unit in my feral ork list.
I think kill teams are in one of the chapter approved books as well, but i'm not shure if they're still legal (don't quote me on this though bcs I havn't paid nearly as much attention to them as I have to the kroot)
as for the clarification on the catachan, thanks boxant, it was bugging me... I beleive you, but are you shure about the out of print rule? where can I find the FAQs you speak of? do you have any idea if there are any plans to revive the Catachan?
It would be sad to see them dissapear like ogre kingdoms
