    Land Speeder
    Good points: Fast, skimmer, cheep, can mount heavy weapons, variants.
    Bad points: Low armor, skimmer

    Attack bike
    Good side: toughness 5, 2+ save, cheep, can mount heavy weapons, turbo boost, also have twin linked bolter.
    Bad side: limited to 9 in an army.

    Ok. in my humble opinion, attack bikes are alot better than land speeders for a few simple reasons.
    land speeders are too easy to kill. And being a skimmer, an immobalised result, means that your screwed.

    With toughness 5 and a 2 plus save, your pretty much protected. running these things p the board with BOOST in your first turn, you can immediately get behind some cover, and then pounce and strike whilst the rest of your force slogs up the board.

    If you did this with land speeders, they would all be dead, because even s4 wepaons can kill them.

    IMO, attack bikes are much more survivable then LS and are a better choice.

    I personally prefer Land Speeders under the new rules. Also, you're arguments have a few flaws:

    You list "skimmer" as a bad point. I don't see the negative, as skimmers ignore most terrain, can go over troops, and are only hit on a 6 in close combat.

    I agree that they are easy to kill, but so are attack bikes: the toughness of 5 does not apply for insta-kill weapons. Therefore, an attack bike will still be destroyed by a single missile or lascannon shot.

    My main reason for liking speeders more now though is the fact that they can deep strike in missions that allow. Therfore, I can deep strike behind enemy tanks, shoot their rear armor (multi-melta), and hopefully blow them up all in the same turn. I'm willing to lose the speeder in the next turn as long as I get one good shot off with my multi-melta, which will probably destroy a tank that is worth more points than the speeder. Bikes have to play the cover game by running along the flanks behind cover to stay alive to be able to make that good shot.

    All my opinion, of course.

    this discussion comes up every now and then.

    in the end it all comes down to personal taste. use what works for you.

    I myself prefer the landspeeders. especially tornados.

    Skimmers aren't quite as screwed when immobilised in 4th ed.
    And land speeders just look better, that's what's important.

    Anyway, what's the point of this topic?

    Call me crazy, but I thought strength 3 was able to wound toughness 5. If thats the case, why am I supposed to be discouraged about S4 weapons damaging my AV10 speeders?

    I'll happily cruise my speeders around a squad of guard with nothing but flashlights, but I'm willing to be that an attack bike at rapid fire range regrets the same action.

    I like LS better because they can sit behind trees and pop out at the right time. They can move 12" and still fire the AC and HB, which makes a pair of them quite devestating. If you use them right you can take down entire squads, especially if there not in power armor. The key is not to put them in into the middle of your army so they get shot at, I find putting them on the flanks is the best place for them. LS are just to mobile, and you need 6's to hit them in cc and alot of the time you can only glance them.

    Yup, it's now 2Wound 3+save instead of 1W 2+ save.
    Jeez, if only it's a 2+ save with the new turbo boost rules.... That's unbeatable!
