Right, My newest project is to collect and paint a small (1500pt max) Space wolves army. To start I'll be buying the battleforce and a rune priest. Am I correct in thinking this should be around 500pts? To expand the force I'll include another blood claws box some long fangs in a razorback (or the rhino, which is better?) and the new SM commander, subtily space wolfed up of course. One of my problems is that I cannot paint space wolf armour. The colour I want is the blue gray look that GW has but I cannot get it. The way I am trying is to basecoat the armour shadow gray and drybrush space wolves gray and then wash with shadow gray, this leaves the model an off coulor and blotchy. Any tips from you SW veterans?
Ask around in the painting forum about your color scheme.
As for your intended purchases, sounds like you'll have a pretty good start.
If you buy the "new" Razorback model, you should be able to convert it so you can use it as a Rhino OR a Razorback, just dont glue down the big top hatch.
Blood Claw bozes should give you most of the "wolfy" bitz that you'll need. Converting some Wolf Guard Battle Leaders of any Wolf Guard can be a lot of fun.
Personal preference, but I like to go troop heavy when I play my Space Wolves just to make sure enough of them make it to the fight.
I am the Aquila-Guerilla!
Yeah I like troop heavy too,In my 1500pt army I'm making a 14 man sqaud of Bloodclaws w/ wolf lord in a Land Raider Crusader.
I'm not a veteran  Far from that, but still...
I like the wolf priests. And 14 BC with a wolf priest surely would be nice. The Wolf Lord is stronger individually, but 14 BC on the charge, supported by a WPriest... I think it will have impact.
And about the color, maybe you mean 'Space Wolf Grey?' Personally I like that color too. Subtle and beautiful.
I think as a wolf player you have little choice but to go troop heavy, it's the only way to really get the best out of them. With regard fast assault, I personally steer away from Jump Packs and go for bikes because I play high points games and Bikes seem rather more 'Wolfy' (in fact, I'm seriously considering using Wolf figures instead of Motorcycles to mount my Blood Claws on).
As for the colour (and I don't want to run the risk of answering this as if it should be in the painting and conversion forum), I use a black undercoat, heavily and roughly brushed over with Shadow Grey followed by another heavy and rough drybrush of Space Wolves Grey. It gives them a rugged, worn look.

I would recommend lots of blood claws. Having 3 powerfists plus a wolf guard is real nasty, even though there ws 3. Rhinos are probily your best bet for transport and since you can't have heavy weapons in your line squads, land speeders and long fangs are a good buy.
