No there is not a way for DH to stop them from striking first. Who are they slaughtering? Surely not the Grey Knights? They only strike first in the First round of combat only.Originally posted by feral hunter@Dec 18 2004, 21:58

those banshees work me too.
It only takes one round. I've lost entire squads of termies to them, and plenty of PAGK squads, assassins, whatever.
No big deal if you can shoot them. They drop like a bag of dirt, but my friend is much smarter than that. He puts them into Falcons. I know only AV12, but when he has tons of gear on them, they get two rolls on the penetration chart, oh wait I mean the glancing since they move some huge distance, then you always roll a 6 and a 1, then he even gets to negate the 1 with some other roll. So long story short, I've thrown enough firepower at them to take out three LRs and they still survive easily, then can stay still for one round at my doorstep, unlease the banshees and whatch the GKs fall. Man it's ugly.
As soon as I get some lucky dice on those Falcons, those Banshees are dead meat, but I have yet to do that.
Sorry for the rant, that is a sore spot.
high i units tend to kill gk (you think banshies are bad, try going up against wyches with their rediculous assault range and combat drugs/agonizer), the key here is to stay out of combat with them (duh) those falcons are a pain in the ass. either you can hit them with everything youve got and hope for the best or ignore them until they drop their payload. banshies cant assault out of a falcon, and the max squad size is what , 10, 12? you should easily be able to kill the entire unit with one round of concentrated fire, your storm bolters aren cutting it? use an incinerator ds squad to hit them hard on the turn they deploy. he is probably sinking a lot of points in to that unit so put an equal amount of effort in to smearing it, itll most likely wreak his game plan. or you could take a different stratigey, try to tie it up with a cheep stormie unit for a round while you wreak the rest of his army.
Try and get a dreadnought into them. The assault cannon and incinerator it should have will tear them apart and then you can march into combat and rip them apart there as well. As far as I can remember, only the exarch will have a chance of glancing your dreadnought.
And, of course, with the new Assault Cannon rules, you might even me able to take out their transport with that glorious gun.
Not to mention the fact that the banshees plus any transport they might have will be more points than the dreadnought. Just make sure it doesn't get shot at by any big gun on that falcon...
The Imperial Guard is like a punchbag - No matter how hard you hit it, it'll always be ready for a fight.
Vcitory for the Imperial Guard comes about through the sacrifice of our men, not through the cowardly survival tricks of other armies.
so far iv thrown everything at the banchees, dreadnaughts, termies, even my HQ
. even he failed since he cant save against 9 power wepon shots. oh ya khenyon my friend does the same as yours he uses the falcons too, how annoying can they get. specially when he has two units of em.
it doesnt matter too me if u rant on this forum, since you have the right to be pissed ^_^

banshees are a joke in the open. BUT falcons that can cruse around the table immune to firepower can put them where the player wants them. They won't be engaged with a dread, or any unit they don't want to be. The falcon dictates matchups better than any other vehicle in 40k.
Couple of questions on the banshee mask as I plan my strategy for this week. Going against 2 falcons maxed on banshees, and other stuff that is typical Eldar. If I defeat these tanks/banshees, I will win easily.
Question 1: If the banshees are tearing up a squad of GKs and I toss in GK squad two (sitting back to assault after the banshees have assaulted squad one) does the mask still apply to the round one of the second units assault? If not, I will have all squads paired.
Question 2: If I make my unit into an "I" shape and don't allow the banshees to engage but a few GKs, then when they consolidate in cc again, does that again count as the first round and the mask effect again? I think that's so, but I need to ask. I guess I could hope for one GK still engaged.
Another theory is big squads, and an inquisitor attached to them with the "roll leadership to assault thing" and some other wargear to fight the good fight. As an IC he could pose problems for Banshees.
With I5, the Banshees will always strike first against basic GK, with or without masks.

Im in ur Halo, killin ur covernantz
He must disembark them before he can charge in 4ed... and the Falcon cant block LOS to them so its a matter of clever deployment of your troops... so whats the problem
..so pick up your incinirators/psycannons/ toons of Stormbolters and wipe them from earth (or your current planet location).
... or swamp them with an inducted IG platoon..
how many points does the average banchee/falcon cost. i had an argument about this when i entered a tournament.
