Hey i was thinking of the Steel Legion today and i found out that i really like them. I especially like the way they look, and the chimeras, plus i love armageddon. Anyways i want to know what codex's i need to buy to play these guys and what i should buy to start me off. PLus, is it true that every SL squad needs to me carried by a chimera/transport ?

Steel Legion does look good, however GW just put their boxed set into the "classic range" which means you now have to order them individually from a GW store.
You could get by with the "mechanized doctrine" out of the regular Imperial Guard codex for your army list. The "official" Steel Legion rules are in the Armageddon codex which I believe is now considered obsolete and isnt much more helpful than just the IG codex.
Just play a mechanized force and use Steel Legion models, it can be a lot of fun.
I am the Aquila-Guerilla!
The steel legion rules was pretty much all sumed up into one doctrine. So just use the models and that oen doctrine and your fine.

Or just use the models (if you can find them) with any doctrine setup you feel like. My platoons are all Steel Legion, but I use Cadians in my command squads and Karkin storm troopers. Haven't really worked out the fluff to explain it yet, but basically something along the lines of a large group of SL remnants on a fringe world being led by reinforcing Cadians.
