Well, hi everyone as I am really new to this forum so I just wanna say hi. Anyway, my friend collects tyranid and we are going to fight. Although we both only have 1-2 squads, I already have a good idea of BA units already. He is going to get a carnifex, hive tyrant, genestealers, hormangaunts, etc etc. His army just seem to overwhelm me really bad and it is only 2000pts. My idea is to get 2 baal class predators to shoot and hopefully soften or destroy their squads, with 1-2 devastator squads with plasma cannons and lascannons. I will also get 2-3 tactical squads for support fire. For HQ I get chaplain with crozius arcanium and thunderhammer and other accessories, if I have points to spare I get a Independant Force commander with terminator armour and stuff. Hopefully, I can get some CC troops to hopefully stop them from running over my shooting force. This is where I get stuck! Should I get assault squads or dreadnoughts for CC? Assault squad got more speed but its a bit fragile against Tyranid's elite melee attacks, while dreadnoughts are more reliable but they are bulky and cannot win combats themselves. Anyway guys, Please Help me PLease!!!!!
Anyway, What is the new trait thing for SM. All I got is the old codex of SM so I have no idea of what it is. Please tell me!
Also, can someone give me a rough idea of what is new for sm in the 4th edition?
Okay, you have the wrong idea for BA, heh.
1. Never, EVER take more than one Devastator squad. Do you realize how many points that wastes if they move even twice a game? Mobile fire support is the far better option. Dreads and tanks. Besides, it's not easy for 'nids to bring down armor.
2. Stock up on assault cannons. Dreads, Speeders, Baal Preds, whatever you can find. Termies may even be a good option. Especially if you throw lightning claws on them and watch them rip up the little bugs.
3. ORDNANCE! ORDNANCE! ORDNANCE! Vindicator, Whirlwind, whatever you can find.
Other than that, make sure you charge him. Even your bolter armed troops are sickening with Furious Charge.

I agree with cypher.. although i think with your Dev squad, it would be just as good to get flamers and heavy bolters.
"Tyrannids, Dark Eldar, Necrons, or the Heretical Forces of Chaos.. It does not matter who I fight.. They will all fall the same under my bolter fire, and bleed the same from the cut of my Chain Sword.. COURAGE AND HONOR!!!"
I would go with lots of ML in your tac squads as they would be able to take down both the big baddies and the mass gaunt squads. I wouldn't bother with flamers as there short range means you will usually get charged before your able to use it (alot of tyranids move close to 24"). A librarian with fear of darkness could work if you could consintrate on the snyp creatures first then use it.

So can anyone give me an army list to look at so I can improve my army against nids?
