Erm I'm going to engage a 1000pt tank-heavy (Leman Russ, Demolisher, chimeras) IG army soon. So I'd need some AT firepower and since I plan on assaulting his puny Guardsmen with the bulk of my army, I only have around 200pts left. So what's the most effective AT stuff for that pt cost?
PS. I already have 26 CC troopers which will get there by turn 2 (jump pack, infiltrate, Rhino, etc) and a fire support Tac squad (bolters, HB, plasma gun).
Thanx in advance!
I would beef up your cc units with melta bombs or at the very least krak. Most rear armor is 10 and most of the armor on the side is 12. It might be worthwhile deepstriking termies, land speeders or an assault squad with 2 plasma pistols (maybe one for the vet sgt too). A Land speeder with multimelta deepstriking is probily a good bet.
a preditor anihillator can be quite effective if you can get in between enemy tanks (aka attack side armour/rear armour) another option would be to arm your assault marines with melta bombs or if you have them arm your scouts with missile launchers hope this helps.
spambot kill tally: 79

[00:01] <+zubus> i love you, ya skirt wearin nothern monkey! ^_^
Your best bets are:
Missile Launchers: Effective against against Chimeras and side/rear armor on almost anything else. Plus! Dropping frag templates on his squads will cause him a lot of grief.
Melta Bombs: If you're going to be up close an personal anyway, you might as well get an attack for everyone in your squad (or atleast your leaders) and assault the sides of his vehicles.
Landspeeder Tornado: w/ an Assault Cannon and Multi-melta. The IG can throw a lot of fire at you so you'll have your hands full keeping it out of harms way. If you can keep it alive, its tank busting AND troop slaying abilities will serve you well (and for cheap! In the 200 points you have left you should be able to take 2.
If you're going to get in close quickly, then maybe just a melta-gun in most of your squads will be the cheapest and most effective way, sure you sacrifice some CC attacks for one model, but against IG you shouldnt be too worried.
EDIT: Almost forgot! Mass bolter / bolt pistol fire will usually explodinate a Chimera if you can fire at its side/rear armor. Armor 10 should be no problem for you.

Can't take a LST with assault cannon and multimelta, either ac and hb or mm and flamer. Although im in love with the ac and hb varient, the multimelta would be best for armor 14 tanks and when all the tanks are toasted use the flamer on his line squads. I know from playing guard that they usually tend to get bunched up due to having so many, a heavy flamer could really 'light up' your day.
Use small units with heavy weapons (missile launchers and lascannons). Don't concentrate all your firepower into one unit - it will only end up doing nothing or dying from enemy fire.
Dreads are always good (if they're not using lascannons on the other side!, but I prefer infantry in smaller games.
give yourself a devestator squad with 4 rockets. once the vehicles go down they can be used to take out the infantry.
get some termies and give them the assault cannon, pray you roll sixes against the armor and your good.
imo go with the missles, krak are very effective versus armor 13...
