Welcome to Librarium Online!
Hi Guys, I have never liked the Blood Angles, infact, I always disliked the chapter. However, I was in my local GW wth my pals today and was reading up on the BA fluff, and something clicked...
Long story short, I now have Tactical Squad, Combat Squad, SM Commander, SM Command Squad Box, Assault Marine Box, Blood Angel Assault Command Squad Box, and a Death Cmpany Box. ... you know the girl at school you always picked on but secretly liked, I have a feeling that its been like that with the Blood Angels.
Anywho... basically I have a few questions about making up a playable force out of what I have.
To make the two troops options using the Tacticals, Combat, and normal command squad for 2x 10 man squads (I only got the Com Squad for the extra Bitz really)
Then for HQ... Using the Commander and Apoc bitz from the Normal Command Squad to make a Sanquinary High Priest with Jumppack (MC Power Sword / Bolt Pistol / Iron Halo) Then making a 10 man Assault Honor guard (throw in 3 power weapons, a standard bearer.) Now... the questions
1) is a 10 man body guard overkill? would a 5 man BG be better and using the other to make either a FA Assault Squad or an Elite Squad.
2) If a Honor Guard is with a SHP, can they still upgrade one man to be a SP?
3) Is it worth taking a Vet.Sarg and then T.Honors for the squad? Will the points be worth the attack bonus?
4) Although its a long way off me getting any, are Devistator squads worth taking because of the Black Rage?. Is it just better to take more assault squads with meltabombs and take out armour with those?
Thanks in advance.
1) 10 man body guards for honour guard will be VERY expensive. something like 50 pts per marine w/ power weapon and jump pack, plus they will be a big target for a player to shoot at so if they die you lose about 500 pts plus the cost for the high priest.
2)Yes, it doesn't say anything about you not being able to have high priest lead a honour guard and upgrade one member to a normal priest
3)Not really, 30 pts just for 1 extra attack isn't worth it, just give him a power fist and you're ready to go.
4)Devastators are worth it, you don't really roll 1's very often and melta bombs don't work on dreads and they are relatively short range compared to devastator lascannons.
I wouldn't take devestators because your paying a high price for the weapons and its one squad which means your enemy can avoid them or concentrate fire on them and then you have no anti-tank left. Also if they do rage..which eventually they will, sure its on a 1, but I've had more then half my army rage on one turn. If you do decide to take them, don't count on them. Also make sure yout ake a big squad since you could lose a couple to DC.
Meh I used to take devastator squads and they always did something useful (I.E blow up dread or take out some TMCs) plus when they do go into black rage, it's only for one turn, so it's ok. I normally use assualt squads to deepstrike or outrun my enemies and herd them into killing zones by making them fall back from cc or giving my vet sarge a death mask.
It's funny I've never done that with any other army, but yeah BA tend to herd the opponent. I use one assault squad on the right and DC w/ Chaplain on the left with LST for support. It tends to force the enemy to go into a shell; perfect for my librarian to use fear of darkness and get everybody.
OK, I see what you mean about Honor Guards getting expencive quickly  However, i think I have a good compromise...
SHP - Power Weapon, BP, Halo
Vet Sarg - Power Weapon, BP
Honor Marines - Power Weapon, BP
Honor Marines - CCW, BP
With the SHP giving the re-rolls to the squad this shoiuld really be able to do some damage on the charge.
Tacticals have been built with pretty standard setups. However I have opted not to give them heavy weapons and arm both with a Plasma Gun. I think I will end up getting an Anti-Armour Devistator squad, fingers crossed they wont rage too much
After I built up everything and looked at the bitz i have left over, I have managed to build a nice Chaplain Model to lead Death Company  However... this rases a new question.
1) Do I use the Chaplain Rules from Codex: BA or CodexM? I assume BA as that includes the rules for the extra Death Company models?
Finally, I think I will take this as a chance to show off the result of my to converted Blood Angel HQ units...
Death Company Chaplain (Blu-Tacked together ATM, and Shoulder pads not attached). The Weapon is made from the Standard pole from the normal Command squad, the top of the banner pole at the top, and the skull from the hilt of a chainsword at the bottom...
High Priest SM Commander Legs, SM Plastic Apoc Front Body, SM Commander Cloak, BA Vet Head with attached Iron Halo, Company CHampion Sword, Assault Marine BP.
Colour wise I was thinking the Chaplain in Death Company Colours (obviously) and the Priest in Skull White Armour + Helm, with Red Pad Trims, Red Eagle, Red Cloak.
Great looking models, and to answer your question, Codex Blood Angels is used instead of Codex Space Marines. But for some units you need codex Space Marines, but it should say which units are in the other codex in the BA codex.
Tact is for people who give a damn. I'm not one of those people.
your high priest isant equipt with the narthicium and reductor. because unless your playing aginst your mates and they allow it you will need the WYSIWYG.
i have devestators. 4 missile launchers do it good...4 templates for swarms and 4 kraks for any big bastarts that get in the way. like tanks or marines.
P.S. Blood angels rule, the anger lets us ignore wounds ...hehehe
As far as i can see, The High Priest dosn't need to be equiped with them. The wargear entry for his says he can take them, not that he must. (Where-as the normal S.Priest must take them.)Originally posted by dunno@Jan 3 2005, 00:52

i have never seen a player who collect the mighty blood angels who dosent have a high priest with out the narthicium and reductor because when in a honor guard you then up grade one to a sanguinary priest thus ignoring the first 2 wounds. so i was asuming that he was thinking of that and so if he is he has to convert.Originally posted by Knape97@Jan 3 2005, 17:57
