Now I was looking thru the good old Codex and I came upon Trust your battle brother in the Trait section.
Hmm are 3 pts worth it to have a Space Marine who has the counter-attack ability and the right to have an extra "nonexistent" CCW?
I was wondering whether I got this right:
9 marines w/bolter, 1 w/plasma gun. All with TYBB = 190pts
So this squad can disembark from a Rhino, rapid fire every gun they have (a lot of shots), then when and if an enemy charges they will have 30 attacks to meet it (basic 10+ 10 for Bolter/True Grit + 10 for Counter Attack skill)
Am I right? If I am, would this squad be great for their points value? I mean, GO TO HELL, IG!
well for starters, the plasma guy would not recieve the bonus. making it cost 27pts instead of 30.
i think they only get 2 attacks a piece and never get a charging bonus so i think the highest it could ever be is 20 attacks.
i think its cool, i remade all 60 of my marines with a ccw and bolter...

I think they have 10 attacks becouse of Counter Attack Skill only...

he gave the extra 10 attacks from the true grit ability and the other from the counter attack ability
The Holy Bolter
998. model bolter: Godwyn pattern with ammo counter, sinister/dexter lock mechanism and sickle magazine with 30 rounds of .75 calibre bolts with diamantine tips, depleted deuterium core & mass reactive detonators. Fires in 4 round bursts.

So can any1 tell me how many attacks this squad actually has? I know that u get an extra attack w/true grit and the marines have 10 basic ones, but do u get 10 MORE attacks for Counter-attack?

Sub Heading Counter attack
Nope no bonus for Counter attack other than the 6" move.
True grit is ok, but the max number of attacks a standard marine gets with it is 2 (unless under the effect of something like the holy relic) seeing as they don't get the +1 for charging.
But 3 points a model? No thanks I raher have another marine than 5 models with True grit and Counter attack.

I have a special squad.
Sentinels (name of squad)
Sarge: with term honours+ artificer armour
Skills: True Grit+Counter Attack (trust your battle brothers)
And now I have a choice. Give them Infiltration (see but dont be seen) or a Rhino. Anyway they can cause some trouble. When they disembark they will fire their bolters, if they are close enough 20 shots. And if someone charges them each guy has 2 attacks, apart from the sarge who has 3. A total of 21 attacks.
This can work very nicely against Tyranids or Orks. The Khornes will also think twice before charging.

Don't kid yourself man. Bugs, Choppas, and Chainaxes will all show your marines the Emperor's Peace in close combat.Originally posted by Dr.Virus@Jan 3 2005, 11:33

Still, True Grit is an underappreciated ability. It gives you a versatility the other marines don't have. You can do both offense and defense well, since you aren't limited in range unless you are moving, and 2 attacks on each marine is definitely a good thing.
Sure, you don't get the charge's +1 attack, but I've been in close combat with Tactical Marines, and I would take the 2 attacks in every combat rather than only the charge any day. If you think about it, it's like they're permanently charging, plus counter attack ensures you get everyone in.

i don't think it will work so much against khorne.
my reasoning behind this is simple. they will charge you. a clever person will have furious assalt on them, plus modifiers for the chain-axe. 3+ saves are remarkably good against bolters, and most tend to field bezerkers in large numbers. i think this way you are feeding them cheap points.
make no mistake, they will rip up the other two real quick. my point is that it's limited usefulness against khorne.
Yeah, this is excellent! TY Angel of Rust!

Okay so it wont work against Khorne... but against other armies/races I guess it would.
