please help as i am probrbly not the only one who now has nightmars about brightlances and black guardains
If you know you're up against Eldar, don't even bother taking any tanks. Stick with things like armored fist squads, hellhounds, and basilisks. His brightlances have the same chance to penetrate those as they do a Leman Russ and those put out a better volume of fire. You need a high volume of fire in all of your squads so stick with autocannons and heavy bolters. I'm pretty sure autocannons will pop most eldar vehicles, so take those over lascannons for a better chance of breaking them. They still have 48" range, don't forget.
If his cc units are hurting you, stick a squad or two about 15-18" ahead of your fire line as bait. His cc units will run into those first and when they kill them, you have 1-2 turns of laying into them with heavy bolters and lasguns to whittle them down. Use your bassie, chimera, and hellhound to put a lot of hits on his seer council. They have an invulnerable save so you want to make them test as many times as you can. Don't forget that you can move up to 12" and still fire chimera and hellhound weapons so you can stay out of range of nasty seer council hth attacks on your vehicles. Try to keep terrain between his jetbikes and your vehicles so minimize the shots he can take on them.

Actually, the best bet against the Seer Council is sheer volume of fire. Since they aren't particularly hard to wound, the thing that'll break your neck is that rerollable 4+ invulnerable save and 3 wounds per farseer; the best thing to crack it is making each of the farseers take 12 wounds. No easy task, but then again, the Seer Council is imho the single toughest unit out there... but pricy, don't forget that. Also, check if your opponent uses his army list correctly. A seer council requires the Ulthwé craftworld modification, which in turn requires him to take 2 Black Guardian Squads and limits his aspect warrior choices severely! So, if you feel something might be off balance, check his Codex: Craftworlds.
Still, in case he plays correctly, your best bet as IG is to tie the SC up forever with a bunch of 50 Conscripts, preferrably led by a Commissar. The SC wounds on 2+? Big deal with those guys.
If you're considering allies, Daemonhunters using incinerators / psycannons will work wonders. Both ignore invulnerable saves, and since neither Farseers nor Warlocks have regular armour, they will literally melt away - and that's usually a ton of points your annihilating there. I've seen Seer Councils coming close to 1000 pts. Incinerators have the added benefit, that even IF your opponent uses the psionic power that grants his seer council a 5+ cover save (which eldar players only do when they know they're facing DH), you may even ignore that.
Some good comments here.
One of the things that IG has over Eldar is range, so make sure you take advantage whenever possible. Have a Lascannon squad, Autocannon Squad and Heavy Bolter Squad.
My first targets always with Eldar is Transports. They have a great fast Transport, but if you crack them, the troops die.
I would definatly use the "bait" Squad idea as well.

Yeah, this is some good stuff. Also, if he used Guardian squads or the such with Conceal, a Hellhound is a great way to kill a few, cos of its long range and it ignores armour saves.
that sufll is great
i find the way to defeet the seer councils is to ignot it and avod it
but as impari guard moove at normal sepped it dont work to well
keep these idears coming i am tesing them
i like the conscrips idear
Give us your army list, that will help us help you more.
In saying, eldar are one of the hardest armies to play with, if you make a mistake you cannot get up and keep going like marines, they are incredinbly frail. Do if your opponet makes a noticeable error. Jump on it and make use of it.
And oh, if you have a spare 175 points and you want three russes. take allied armoured comp, not those sissy power armoured freaks. Give the armoured company blessings of the machine god doctrine, then brightlances cannot amend their armour value. this makes your pie plates practically invulnerable :shifty: as the eldar have not got a weapon bigger gun than strength 8.
Side skirts doctrine is good too, +1 to side armour for 15 points a tank.
Trust me, armoured comp will serve you better than sissy DH.
... only triumph could turn pooing his pants into a good thing..
i dont think that you can take allied armoured company vehicles, especially if youre playing IG yourself, now taking a charicter from the AC list id say yes to except for the tank ace, youd have to take the commisar or the colonel/captain of the AC, as this would offset the advantages that an AC tank would give by costing loads more points.
