Hey people just out of curiosity Im asking u guys what do u use for Anti-tank in 1000pt games. That's because I had a debate with one of my SM friends about what to use for around 300pts and he was hellbent on 2xPred Annihilator with lascan sponsoons! And there I thought 4 LSTs will be better and even more versatile and he went all into those dice rolls and probability...headache :realmad: ! So can u guys tell me what do YOU use? (so that I can scream back at him... )
I like useing devastaters. I have two squads of them: anti-tank and anti-troop.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'> They will shoot you and cut you up and step on the pieces and burn them and assemble the ashes and shoot them again and grind them into sand and scatter the sand into the sea and boil the sea away and gather the hardened remains and melt them into a rock and shoot the rock and burn what's left and launch the remains into the sun and...

The classic tool for taking out tanks is the LS with a multi melta. Its fast, and if it gets within 12 inches of the target chances are its frucked. LS are cheap and effective. Also a small assault squad with melta bombs is effective. Melta bombs are like multi meltas except you slap the bombs on the side of a tank and it automatically gets the extra d6 of strenght. all in all meltas are the best tank killer close up.
Far away, however, i find that the las cannon is awesome. Very rarely do you miss playing sms and very frequently do you pen and destroy the vehicle. Instead of making a dev. squad with several expensive lascannons make several tac. squad with las cannons in them each. This makes them cheaper and all you power doesn't have to be focused on one tank, but can be split in several directions.
Another favorite i have is the infiltrating scouts with missle launchers. This enables you to possibly hit the side armor of their tanks.
Any combination of the above is highly suggested. I hope i helped
Id say dev squad with 4 ML, or like above a couple of tac squads with a lascannon. The sole reason I don't depend on tanks is that they can be shaken or stunned relatively easy or the weapon can be destroyed...all by one pen role. Whereas devestators you need to kill them all. While LST are good at killing armor 11 anything higher is a real gamble..although with four im sure you could get a rending hit or two.
Bikes also make fantastic tank hunting units.
Can be given Melta-guns, Melta-bombs and Multimeltas. Just as fast as speeders and can take alittle more of a beating. Check the bike tacticas in the articles section for a more in depth look at bikers and there tank hunting abilities.

Efficiency VS Point Cost VS Ease Of Use - Your best bets:
1) Chaplain led Assault squad - 2 plasma pistols, powerfisted sergeant
2) 8 man Devastator squad - 4 missile launchers
3) Land Speeder Tornado - HB + AC
Another option that I favor is the "suffer not the works of heretics" on my devastator squad with missile launchers. They act like lascannons vs. tanks but can still lay down good anti-personnel firepower with frag templates.
Dreadnaughts are another good option because a venerable dread can take a beating. He can also have the tank hunter ability--so with twin-linked lascannon and missile launcher, he can move and fire both weapons!
Whatever you take, make sure that you get to roll more than one die. I've seen it happen too many times where a player takes pains to maneuver his unit--be it landspeeder or whatever--to get a perfect shot and then misses by rolling a 1 or a 2. Then he promptly gets nailed, and the unit is destroyed without accomplishing its intended purpose. If you do take a vehicle, make sure it gets multiple shots--or has a twin-linked weapon so it can re-roll a miss. I also prefer dev squads to tac squads for the same reason. You can put 2-4 anti-tank weapons in the squad and know that you're going to get at least one or two hits. But with the same number of tac squads with one anti-tank weapon each, you are wasting points on all those bolter guys who are just watching the show because they can do nothing against tanks!
Purge all the heretics,
Kill the alien scum,
Suffer not the unclean to live,
And have a beer when you're done.
Yeah thats why I dont like the LS with multimelta...its funny afterwords though when my dread returns the favour; except of course hes got an ac and ml ^_^
For just anti tank I would use a pred annihilator with lascannons. For a mix of things I choose devs with missle launchers and ravenwing land speeders with assault cannons for a bit of anti tank and troop killing fun. Bikes with melta guns are really effective if you can get them within range. A dread with a lascannon, a missle launcher, venerable, tank hunter, extra armour, and smoke launchers give a nice touch for taking down tanks and infantry, but can get expensive for all those points. <_<
You call those cheap implants boobs?
They aren't boobs, they're lies!
i like 4 missle launchers, like you said the anti tank is great and it has frag temps and they are very cheap pointswise (and the minis are easyier to get) than lascannons. i play against DE mainly so i can take out his tanks with a well placed shot from a bolt pistol! (if you play death guard you will notice the minis are carrying butter knives, which can also take out their tanks)
