Welcome to Librarium Online!
I'm wondering what a typical Daemon Hunter army principal weakness is. Do you need to treat it like any other Space Marine army with weapons that can hurt Daemons badly?
mainly, u need to look out for tanks. either: take a land raider OR a dread with lascannon OR give melta bombs to brother captains or justicers of deep striking units
alternitavely, put a squad of strom troopers in a rhino and give 2 of them meltas
also, beware of numerous, strong enemies like genestealers. grey knights are few and far between, and storm troopers arent that resilient. to beat these, maximise in firepower, as these types of units tend to be fast moving and lightly armoured, so shoot them down
hope that helps
I do apologise. My previous signature was positively turd. Let's hope this'll be better.
Aw, crap. I failed.
this topic reaks of the taint of chaos, the heritic and the daemon.....
are biggest weakness is tanks and their armoured ilk. we have some capacity to overcome this and in fact ive seen some dh armies do quite well against them when equiped for it. as a chaos player you should be warned that defilers and vehicles with daemonic upgrades can be easily vaquished by a dh army geared to fight chaos, and may suffer a number of negative effects.
<_< I guess my Avatar, my current armies and my question make this a statement. At least I got an Inquisitor answer before being caught upOriginally posted by funnymouth@Jan 14 2005, 196

So numbers and armour are the DH worst ennemies... I see. I guess that making a DH army cost a lot of points and that GK terminators are a must in a decent sized DH army. HQ's and Elites like Assassin must cost a lot too and the storm troopers scum are just normal weak humans even if they are backed up by justicars...
I do fear the Inquisition of man and see them as worthy skulls for the great Gods of Chaos. I also love the thought of destroying the favored ones of the false emperor. The fact that I face them for the first time make me ask some questions about them tho, knowing is winning half the battle.
You have not the faintest inkling of their stupendous cost. Just pack up on tanks, and you have nothing to worry about: they have just about no effect on chaos per se, only those daemon fellers you cant use anyway. So numbers and armour are the DH worst ennemies... Daemonhunters have very limited anti-tank power. Their most common anti-tank comes from Stormtroopers with meltaguns, which isn't the most effective way of taking out armor. Dreadnoughts with lascannons or assault cannons are common too. Watch out, though - with S6 on EVERY Grey Knight, they can pop AV12 and down in close combat (so keep your Dreadnought safe!.
They also have limited mobility. Grey Knights can't take Rhinos or Chimeras for transport, only Land Raider/LRC's, which aren't common because of their points cost. Yes, they can Deepstrike, but once they land they're restricted to the same speed as anyone else.
Numbers is the other problem. One power armored GK costs almost twice that of a normal marine. That, plus the fearless rules, mean that swarming GK in combat is sometimes effective.
How dare you fellow Daemonhunters share information with the enemy!!!!
Anyway a Daemonhunter army's worst enemy is tanks, as they have few anti tank weaponry.
We have a dread which dies very quickly and is overpriced in my opinion, and a LR which is much too expensive but is the only thing that can last when taking out tanks, we have melta bombs and melta guns but they all require getting close and if you really want them dead before they get close then they are dead.
So you see we have a low class anti tank weaponry(dread, melta weapons, plasma weapons, NFW) and a very high class anti tank weaponry (LR), we have no middle class like the pred.
Bring lot of tanks.
Numbers is our enemy but not as much as tanks because we can counter numbers by inducting IG.
FOR FREEDOM, FOR HONOUR, FOR BLOOD
Hmm, I've never had a problem with tanks.
And mind you that most of my games are vs a IG player with a Leman Russ, a Russ Demolisher, a Basilisk and a sentinal. I killed bout 800+ points of guys with my Termie Squad. Watch out those guys.
The thing is you have to get damn lucky against a Demolisher to take it out. lowest av 11, those damn demolisher cannons.
Take an LR, a Dread can't hurt either.Chims are good too.
Where's your Baritone Saxophone?
Yes, tanks have owned me, but I disagree that they are the principal weakness of a DH army. I think it's our great stats all around that in the end hurts us. I'll try to get to the point sooner than later.
The GK has S6 attacks, fearless and a storm bolter. This is a great setup anyway you look at it, but it also means we get no specialized units, because the whole army is above and beyond a normal SM.
BUT, this also means we can't create units with specific tasks, such as cc only, or shooting only, etc. This is a problem since everyone takes a powergaming list to some degree. Not to be cheesy, but it's fun to create a specialized unit here and there and troops just start to look boring. We almost always are facing a more adapted enemy.
Sure everyone can whoop up when you get a mismatch, but when both players are smart, you're going to get average matchups. My GKs have had their asses totally handed to them in CC, sounds strange but it will happen every game. There are plenty of far superior cc units in the SMs and alien line. Space Wolve HQs can make a GM look like a chump. Berserkers, banshees, whatever, plenty of cc best-in-game squads, and we have none, ours are just great all around. This is huge since we need to assualt to win the day. We don't have the luxury to spend points only on the abilities we want the squad to have.
Strange to say, but that's our downfall, we pay big points for every squad to be great at everything, but most squads we encounter will be a better specialized units that are far superior to our GKs in their task.
But I still love the tactical flexibility and challenge of it.
Well after playing several games against a Daemon Hunter army list of 1500 pts and after winning 3 out of 5 games I'll say that the principal weakness of this army reside in their number.
GK terminators are by far the toughest unit I had to battle against so far. I have in mind one memorable turn where 2 squads of Plagues Marines tried to wipe them out (aspiring champion tooled up to the bone with power fist and daemonic gifts) and didn't kill a single one... 14 men destroyed in a single round of close combat just to consolidate into a squad of Furies... and they wiped them out too.
The weakness of the DH army is that if you can wipe out the GK and control the GK terminators then the game is over for your ennemy. First game the GK terminator scattered in front of my 2 havoc squads and in line of sight of my dreadnought that fire frenzied that turn... 4 dead... then the Plague Marines proceeded with the IG and the GK and the Daemon prince wiped out the 2 assassins.
I have to admit that the lord is good against a single Daemon target, he killed my Daemon prince twice, but he can't resist a squad of 5 Furies charging at it... and they don't have the numbers to stand against most armies.
