Anyone have any experience with this tank? any war stories? any advice for a new Blood Angel?
thanks in advance

I was going to get one, but ended up getting a vindicator..ug. I find opponents tend to bunch up against BA so ordance could really be effective. I just think a tank that needs to get that close is probily going to get some powerfists against it at the least..nevermind the enemies long range stuff (like dev squad).

TL Assault cannon..........drool.
4 shots. 3+ to hit. 1-2 misses. = 5-6 chances to get a 6 (and hence rend)
More chances to rend, everyone loves that.
If you do get one, stay away from the flamers. I have never seen them used as people will just stay 8" away from the tank. HB is by far better. Unless the baal has over charged engines. I dont remember if it does. If so, flamers "MAY" be useful.
Now that that has been said. Ball class pred is for inti-infantry (was made fight tyranids after all). Are you really lacking this in your BA army? Most BA armies I see lack ways to deal with vehicules and monstrous creatures. Ahnialator would most likelly be a better choice.
Mentor of Space Marine Commanders far and wide.
Efficiency VS Point Cost VS Ease Of Use - Your best bets:
1) Chaplain led Assault squad - 2 plasma pistols, powerfisted sergeant
2) 8 man Devastator squad - 4 missile launchers
3) Land Speeder Tornado - HB + AC
I don't want to say its a must for a BA player, but it is definately worth it. Good tank especially with the new Assault Cannon rules. If it doesn't mow something down it'll draw fire.
In 3rd ed my experiances are as follows:
Generally, since most of my opponents were 3+ save T4 the thing was pretty useless, the flamers are useless cos you never get near, even with overcharged engines, I suspect that in 4th ed this hasnt changed, stick to heavy Bolters.
If you are fighting lesser mortals (eldar, Dark eldar, IG, nids) then it was OK but not really any better than a destructor.
now 4th ed has upgraded the Assult cannon to something far more nasty and this makes the tank better, but better for what? taking out infantry? as someone said, people tend to try and keep in bunches against BA to stop things like death company and honour guard from wiping them out peacemeal, so a vindicator may well still be better for that, particularly with instakill. armour? you cant beat the pred anih at that
So, in 3rd ed - I regretted buying it.
In 4th ed, although I havent tried it, i would consider it in the same situations as I would considerr a pred destructor and it is probably now marginally better, but then I dont ever field a destructor
Everything you have been told is a lie!
I always field a baal and two vindis in 1500 pt games, since that gives me good fire support for my assault squads and honour guards. It's quite easy getting them across, as they keep raging for some reason and when they do get foward in range, they can kill almost anything, and with loads of cc marines supporting them in the front so they don't get assualted to much
i use it against orks ever time i can...kills around 7+ orks per turn by itself...thats alot when you see the size of the mob after heh
Never judge someone until you've walked a mile in their shoes...by that time they'll be a mile away, and have no shoes
