I was just wondering how good IG is against Tau.
Give your opinions and battle reports to support them
This is in like a "normal game" like 1500 point armies, 3 troops, 2 elite, HQ and stuff like that.
It depends on wether you're talking mechanized Tau or standard sit-and-shoot Tau. I've played against both many times. There are some battle reports I've posted if you want to dig for them.
With my basic all-comers list, I absolutely destroy sit-and-shoot Tau almost every game. My basic troops have several heavy bolters and autocannons spread throughout the platoons, which help immensely as Tau range is shorter for anything except railguns. Your battle tanks, hellhounds, chimerae, and basilisks will absolutely destroy most of their units (with the exception of broadsides) as they are never going to get armor saves against the main weapons on each of those.
Mechanized Tau are a problem, and here's why....their stupid skimmers can only be get glancing hits if they move more than 6." So, if he takes decoy launchers which allows rerolls of immobilized results, you're only going to shake or stun them most of the time. This is a problem as he is going to have 3 or 4 of them coming at you to deposit rapid-firing fire warriors that are going to completely wreck your fire line and are protected from all of your heavy weapon while inside the transports. You can't even force them out with fire unless you destroy it since you can only ever get glancing hits. Serious pain in the ass.
My advice to you: take carapace armor. I'm normally not a big fan of it, but I found that at the cost of dropping my hellhound and a couple special weapons, I can keep my guys from dying enmasse against burst cannons and pulse rifles. A squad of fire warriors or a stealth team are now killing 3-5 guys instead of the entire squad every time.
Some other tips: take missile launchers instead of lascannons. His vehicles don't have very good armor and crisis suits only have 3+ saves. You're saving a lot of points and getting the option to fire frag missiles into his tightly packed squads of fire warriors that just jumped out of a devilfish. Also, autocannons rock. They have the range to take out troops that are across the table as well as pop his transports. You can even get some lucky hits and kill his hammerheads with them. 3 autocannons give you about a 50/50 chance to break the front armor. You can only glance it anyway if it moves over 6." 3 missile launchers give you more like 1/3 chance of breaking it's front armor. Storm troopers with meltaguns are nice too as they can infliltrate/deepstrike and AP1 hits always penetrate if they break the armor. Don't be afraid to shoot at his vehicles with your pie plates, either. Even the transports are pretty big, especially towards the back. If you scatter, you're likely to still catch a piece of it if your scatter is 3" or less. And with 72" range, you're going to hit them from across the table, before they are a threat.
Good luck, kick some xeno butt.

Well, Heres some info about player relations.
Tau: Get pissed off at guard players because guard is pretty much the only army that can outshoot them and they still get their buts kicked by them in CC.
IG: Get pissed of at tau players because of rail guns, markerlights and their flyby shooting moves.
I understand this perfectly as my lil' bro plays tau. :glare:
... only triumph could turn pooing his pants into a good thing..
It's easier to fight Tau than it used to be. The biggest reason is that your tanks are mobile. You can avoid the move-or-shoot broadsides and move to get a better position onto crisis suits - which are quite nasty for your normal squads, as they are very mobile. Don't be afraid of assaulting the crises, they are not that tough.
Don't underestimate the Kroot, they are good close combat fighters, but can shoot as well as your own guardsmen.
 IG against tau would be a tough battle. When i play an IG force i just whipe em out because if you take out the heavy weapons youi are nothing. Keep the big guns back and let the crisis just run and gun. We do suck very bad at CC. It took 5 crisis to take out a wraithlord. But we make up for no CC with crisis being able to move and shoot then move again, and we got major ass kicking firepower. But all around id say we are equal, it really depends on the player.
Space Wolves: 3000+pts.
dark elves: work in progress
